Hi all! I have been looking through the rental car forum and it's pretty confusing, plus mostly applies to 1-day rentals. I am going to Puerto Vallarta (PVR) staying in Punta de Mita from 12/8 to 12/15 and considering it's ~$65 each way to get to the hotel, I feel I'd be better off just getting a rental car and driving myself (plus that way if we decided to venture out while we're there, we have transportation). I would be picking the car up at PVR airport 12/8 around 3pm and can drop off anytime til 1pm on 12/15. I'll happily drive even a teeny car, so long as it's automatic transmission and has air conditioning (unless rates are EXTREMELY cheap on non-A/C) -- basically, I just need to fit myself, my sister, 2 suitcases and 2 carry-ons.

Thank you so much!
It is not confusing to use the extensive information in the car rental thread. The codes go in the discount code box for the specified car rental company. Where are you getting the idea that they only work for one day rentals- the codes give a discount for any number of days. There are specific coupons which can be used with the discount codes- these will have minimum rental periods. Try three and post what you found.
Actually, there are very FEW codes and virtually no coupons that will give a discount on 1-day rentals, so I am confused as to how you got that idea... normally we advise PL for 1-day rentals, perhaps that is what you saw? as Mom said, please try some of what's out there and report your findings. It's a Pay it Forward kind of thing, plus it prevents us re-doing your work.
Most of the codes there are expired and don't even pertain to me because I need a car in Mexico and many of those rental companies aren't available in MX. The only ones that are are National, Hertz, Budget, Alamo, and Avis, which were all very expensive (because most don't even offer economy cars). The rest of the companies are all international companies (Europcar, EZ Rent a Car, ACE, U-Save) with no codes in that list, which is why I posted. None of those codes for the 5 national companies help because the rentals are all still well over $200 for the timeframe I need regardless of use of any of them. The cheapest I found was $129 from Orbitz for Payless Rentals for an economy, auto tranny, with A/C. As far as I can see, there are no codes for this company listed here or otherwise. Thanks agsin.
Europcar for your dates at PVR Airport gives me a total rate of USD156.98 for an Auto. Dodge Avenger. And that is with no codes. You can save 15% with the Europcar code on carrentalsavers.com
Still confused about the expired codes...pretty sure Emerald Club and WalMart don't expire , and most of the coupons are good thru 12/15 although it is true you might not be able to use them internationally. and the finding nothing... those 5 major companies are quite a few, even 200$/week nowadays is not a lot of money for a weekly rental, and 129 is DIRT CHEAP. We've been trying to guide you to post which codes you have tried and what the results have been. You'd get a lot more help that way. People are more willing to go out of their way to run the numbers when they see that an OP has put some effort into it for themselves.
Even if you find a cheap car in Mexico, do realize that you are going to shell out signicant dollars for the required insurances. Do NOT even think of operating a vehicle in Mexico without insurance. And remember that US and Canadian auto policies do not cover driving in Mexico.

Considering I'm posting on FATWALLET and NOT FLYERTALK, then obviously I have NOT tried those codes because I didn't know they existed!

As I said in my PREVIOUS POSTS, those codes DO NOT HELP because the companies they apply to are still more expensive than the smaller companies (Payless, U-Save, etc) who do not have codes. I can't try codes that I don't even have, and I'm not going to try codes that I do have (for the big companies) when they still cost more than the smaller companies, so I really have no trial and error code posts to make. Again, I said in my previous post what my search has yielded -- both price for the smaller companies and the fact that I found no promo codes for those companies. I'm not sure how much clearer I can be. Considering I read through the entire other forum and didn't see a single code for any of the smaller companies, I'd say that's significant effort. God forbid I post in the hopes that someone has experience with smaller rental companies in Mexico because I haven't. Shoot me!

My credit card company has a perk that covers auto rental insurance coverage if I rent the car with my credit card. But thank you for the tip, I didn't know that.

I was unaware that searching fatwallet yielded results on flyertalk. Considering I'm posting on Fatwallet and am not familiar with Flyertalk (hence why I am on FW) then obviously I did not check those codes. And quick math lesson $156.98 > $129 which I already said I found.

Have you tried any of the codes with the bigger companies to see IF the yield a lower rate. You say you haven't so how do you know the rate is higher? There are many that are open to the general public which you don't need to worry about being asked for ID for. What more do you want us to assist with. People have tried to help you and guide you to areas where you might yield better results and yet you still do no research and come back and show no effort. Please show what you find trying a couple of the codes with the bigger companies. If you have googled codes for the smaller ones and are happy with that rate what more can you ask for. Have you researched reviews on the smaller companies to see if there are issues you should be aware of (once again just google it).

The rate of $156 was without applying codes. You can try the codes yourself...or not. If you are happy with your quote of $129, spare me the math lesson. People like you remind me why I should not bother trying to help.
