I did a little search and came upon

https://www.skiheavenly.com/

I was able to find a motel type place to stay for 3 nights + lift tickets for 2 adults and 1 child for $550. The lodging is not that great (Big Pines) and I think they're might be other offers, but I don't know where to start. Does anyone have any experience? Thanks.

Would be nice if you told us when you want to go and what your ability is. Weekend lodging is significantly more expensive than weekdays and Heavenly is one of the more expensive ski areas at Tahoe. I was able to get an $85 hotel rate ( which includes $25 food credit per day) at Harrahs Tahoe ( which along with the embassy suites, are the two best Hotels in Stateline/South Lake Tahoe) during the week in both Feb and March through Harrahs Winter Getaway. I have a season pass at Heavenly, but I know some of the smaller areas ( e.g., Homewood, Diamond Peak) have better lift ticket deals if you don't need all the terrain at Heavenly. Check out slidingonthecheap and snowbomb for other lift ticket and lodging deals. Also check the usual suspects, Orbitz, Travelocity, and Expedia for lodging and or lift ticket packages.

Well I'm all about the snow boarding it'd be nice to have some amenities in walking distance. I'm an experienced snow boarder, so is my gf, but her son is going for his first time, and I really want him to enjoy good snow (he's 5). We are going from 12-18 to 12-21. The reason I choose Heavenly is because of the "lake view" from the mountain, but I'm not sure how this compares to other mountains and if there is better terrain to be had. So hopefully this can paint a better picture of what we are looking for as far as Lake Tahoe has to offer. Thanks skibum, I will defiantely check out those other links, those are what I was seeking for better research.

If there is snow, Heavenly has great views and terrain ( though not a lot of steeps unless there is a lot of fresh snow), especially in the trees. If you are depending on man made snow, it's basically mostly intermediate terrain, but at least it has more snow making than any other mountain out there. Weekends are tough to get a good deal.

I live in the bay area and usually stay in Reno and drive up to Diamond Peak, Northstar, or Homewood to ski. These resorts have a good view of the lake although not as good as Heavenly that is if you don't mind driving. But if you want to stay near Heavenly, check out the casino hotels. Sometimes they have good deals on lodging. It's going to be hard to find discounts for Christmas break if you book now especially for Heavenly so good luck.

i went in march, and we did priceliine and got mont bleu (old ceasars), so you can bid on a place there if you want. check out better bidding. nothing compares to heavenly's lake views, nothing.

Lift tickets: Try Sacramento-area Costco and/or safeway stores, which often offer discounted lift tickets to many ski resorts.

Another Question: To get to heavenly specifically the Paradice Motel, do you need chains on your vehicle or is it dependent on the weather? So for 12/18-12/21 what can I expect coming from SoCal?

It's totally dependent on the weather. Depending on which way you are coming up, but especially on Routes 50 or 88 over the Sierras, they are very cautious in mandating the use of chains because it is only one lane in each direction for much of the way and one stuck vehicle can really hold traffic up. If there is any threat of bad weather, your best bet is to carry chains you purchase before you get too deep into the mountains because they will turn you back if you don't have chains and they will charge an arm and a leg if you wait to buy them near the check points. I normally get the cable chains at Walmarts or Supermarkets where they are a lot cheaper. If you have 4wd, you can normally get by without chains.

Looks like you are going at a good time. Heavenly has 30+ inches Sun-Mon and more storms are forecast for this week, possibly another big one this w/e.

Yea, another big storm upon on us now. 2-3 feet of NEW snow expected in the Sierra's this weekend.
