Hello, We will be driving from the Miami Airport to the Orlando Airport during one point of our vacation in Florida. Does any one know how much the tolls would be?
I see there is an online calculator HERE but using it I can't seem to figure out where I am getting on when I leave MIA and where I am getting off for MCO.
My plan is to purchase their mini sticker for $5 with a $5 credit. Then load just enough to pay for the tolls. Having the sticker will save time by not having to stop at the toll booths and save the hassle of having change. More info on this HERE.
There are a variety of roads to take out of the airport then north to Orlando, plus you will hit one toll on the Beeline once you exit the Tollway. The normal way out would be east to 95 (free), then jump on the tollway at Dolphin Stadium to the Beeline. That would cost ~$13-$15 with the SunPass. Depending on the time of day you could just stay on 95 all the way north to the Beeline and go west to MCO, that would only cost $1.50 (just the Beeline portion).
If you want to take the Tollway, why not just load it to $15 and call it a day, if the route you take is a little more, you might have to use a booth for a toll.
Actually I'm sure you can even do what you are talking about -- the regular e-pass/sunpass transponder (not the little sticker) doesn't work like that. You give a cc and when it dips to <$10, you are automatically charged $50 to refresh, there isn't a way to take it down to $0. However the new mini-passes may work different.
Its cheaper if you take 95 North to Fort Pierce and connect with the Turnpike there. 95 and Turnpike are only like 2 miles apart at that point and there are tons of signs, you'll never miss it.
Are you sure you want to go to Orlando? Going to Paris would be cheaper....they sock you for everything there and the State makes $$$ on the taxes for rental cars...hotel rooms etc.....I live in Tampa and I would not spend all that money there. Its profoundly expensive at best....plus we have been getting a lot of rain lately.
jaimelobo, I clicked the link to "activate a Sunpass you have purchased at a retail store" and on the following screen it gives me four methods to replenish the SunPass. One of them being Credit Card by Phone as needed. This would work best for me. The initial Prepaid amount has a minimun of $10. With the next step up being $25. So loading on $10 + $5 credit and using your route it looks to be $12.15 + $1.50 (beeline) = $13.65 with a remaining balance of $1.35. This is still less then the $15.45 the calculator quoted for using cash.
Using Hotty Toddy route the tolls would be $6.50 + $1.50, leaving a balance of $7.00.
Using the online Toll Calculator, below is what I got:
From: MSPUR2X - NW 199th St. Dolphin Stadium
To: M254 - Orlando S. (US 17/92/441/Bee Line Expwy.)
For a 2 axle vehicle to travel 209.20 miles Toll with SunPass is $12.15 Toll with Cash is $15.45
---OR---
From: M152 - Fort Pierce (SR 70)
To: M254 - Orlando S. (US 17/92/441/Bee Line Expwy.)
For a 2 axle vehicle to travel 102.68 miles Toll with SunPass is $6.50 Toll with Cash is $8.00
Why aren't you flying into Mouse Town? You saving that much money to fly into the hell known as Miami International? OIA is much nicer airport with better car rental deals. If you have to get a South Beach or Super Bowl fix, I say take the Dolphin, Turnpike route. Not only does it get you closest to a zero balance, it gets you the hell of that zoo ASAP. I-95 can back up horrendously, depending on time of day.
We are actually flying into FLL next weekend and taking a cruise out of the Miami Cruise port. For the return trip I found a Southwest discounted flight from MCO back to BOS at $89. This normally is not an incredible deal EXCEPT during school vacation week! The cheapest flight currently found on Kayak.com is $301 from FLL to BOS on 2/21 at 7am which we would not be able to make. For a family of four this is a savings of about $850. So $40 for the rental with unlimited mileage and no drop fee. Plus the drive time, tolls and gas we have to pay we are still ahead of the game in my book.
Dam kids are expensive!
I am glad we are not flying this weekend where the mid-Atlantic states are getting hit by a snow storm.
Sounds like a plan. You be careful in the traffic in Miami-Dade. The horn and finger rule! lol.

Traffic on I-95 between Miami/FLL and West Palm Beach is usually horrendous. I clears up once you get to West Palm Beach.
If you decide to take I-95 to the BeeLine, take the exit for 520 at Cocoa and go west/northwest. This connects to the BeeLine (or is it the Beach Line now?)- it's a little bit shorter. Doiesn't save you on tolls though.
