In April, my wife and I will be flying to CA for my brother's wedding. Since we are already in CA and have time off, we were considering a 4 day cruise.
Right now, the cheapest tickets are into LAX, and the cruises seem to be out of port of Long Beach.
CLE to LAX LAX shuttle to Long Beach Cruise rental car Long Beach to Fresno wedding drop off rental at FAT FAT to CLE
The plane tickets aren't too bad, but the one way rental is pretty bad, and worse from Long Beach. The cheapest rental is from LAX to LAX, and we could save about $160 a ticket to fly from LAX instead of FAT (but we lose some time).
I was thinking shuttle to Long Beach and back, but that's sort of a waste of time, but possibly an idea.
I even considered renting from LAX, driving to Long Beach, parking for 4 days, drive to Fresno, wedding, drive back to LAX. Parking at Long Beach is what kills this idea, but it would be convenient to leave half our luggage in the rental car...
I could use ideas. Shuttle, plane tickets, rental car, etc? Thanks in advance
take a train from LA to Fresno and rent a car in Fresno. From Long Beach, you can take metro to Union Station in LA.

I took the 4 day carnival cruise out of Long Beach about 6-8 years ago. Shuttle service to and from the boat from LAX was no problem, very quick and convenient.
If you have plenty of time.... Plan to stay in Long Beach for one night/day. Take a shuttle Bus from LAX to the Hotel. Nice hotels near the convention center. Leave your extra bags with the Hotel for safe keeping while you are on the cruise. Spend time at the Aquarium, Queen Mary, etc and no shortage of restuarants near the water, convention center or few blocks away to downtown. Downtown has plenty art galleries, dance clubs, restaurants. Possibly hotel has shuttle bus to the cruise lines, just minutes away. After the cruise, as mentioned before take the Metro Rail from downtown Long Beach to downtown Los Angeles. Take the Train to Fresno. Rent a car for the return trip to LAX. Route your trip to the coastline for fantastic coastal scenery, vineyard wine tasting, etc.
