$10 Donation to Help Fund a Mobile Bicycle Trailer
The Issue: Benefits of Building with Upcycled Bike Parts
Sometimes adjusting breaks and attaching rivets can be about more than just building a bicycle. When people learn to fix their own bikes, they gain confidence and feel empowered to ride more often because they can maintain their bicycle. Additionally, using discarded parts to build bikes prevents those parts from ending up in landfills, encourages recycling, and results in putting more safe, functional bikes in the hands of people in the community who cannot afford bikes on their own.
The Campaign: Building a Trailer for a Mobile Bike Shop
If 40 people donate $10 to this Grassroots campaign, then San Francisco Yellow Bike Project can construct a bicycle trailer for its mobile bike shop. Each additional $10 donation will go toward enhancing the bike trailer. Using the mobile bike shop's trailer, cabinet, and tools, volunteer mechanics can travel around the city, building and fixing bikes to provide a more eco-friendly mode of transportation for the community. The trailer will contribute to the project's overall goal of “painting the city yellow,” which includes creating opportunities for mobile repair workshops and raising awareness about upcycling bike parts.
