Peninsula Symphony – Up to 54% Off Concert

Conductors got their name by both guiding orchestras and wielding copper batons that deflect lightning away from the brass section. Behold an electrifying performance with this GrouponLive deal to see the Peninsula Symphony presents A Virtuoso Debut/Brahms’ First. For $19, you get one ticket for general admission (up to a $41 value, including all fees). Doors open one hour before showtime. Choose between the following performances:

  • Friday, March 15, at 8 p.m., at Fox Theatre
  • Saturday, March 16, at 8 p.m., at Flint Center for the Performing Arts at De Anza College

Pieces by Hindemith and Brahms bookend the debut of 16-year-old cellist Austin Huntington, a winner of the Irving M. Klein International String Competition, lending the up-and-coming luminary support as he tackles the spotlight. Huntington takes the central role in Antonin Dvorak’s Cello Concerto in B Minor, op. 104, the full tones of his instrument cutting through flighty woodwind trills, following a mountain of violins to gallop through the octaves in bittersweet surrender. Johannes Brahms’s Symphony no. 1 follows, beginning with foreboding before giving way to lucid, light woodwinds, and periodic harmonic bursts from the ensemble. Yet, before both pieces, Paul Hindemith’s March from Symphonic Metamorphosis, as its name implies, explores the tonal intricacies of a trumpet waking to find itself transformed into a gigantic tuba.

Though Peninsula Symphony sometimes offers a discounted price online, this Groupon is still the best deal available.
