Kenyan Safari with Game Drives in Four Parks
There are dozens of national parks and reserves in Kenya that protect about 8% of the countryâEUR(TM)s savannahs, wetlands, and forests. An abundance of wildlife inhabits these areas of wildlife conservation, including the Big Five: lions, african elephants and buffalo, leopards, and rhinos. Since these animals are considered prized hunting trophies, all but the african buffalo are classified as vulnerable or endangered species.

Days 1âEUR"4: Samburu National Reserve
Following an overnight flight into Nairobi, KenyaâEUR(TM)s capital city, youâEUR(TM)ll transfer to your hotel. Spend the rest of the day relaxing in your room or sign up for an optional activity (extra fees may apply) such as a tour of downtown Nairobi or a visit to the Giraffe Center, where you can feed the giraffes and then dress them up as children. The next morning, the tour heads to Samburu National Reserve, a nearby game park thatâEUR(TM)s home to zebras, ostriches, and a large elephant population. While youâEUR(TM)re here, you can go on as many game drives as youâEUR(TM)d like.
Day 5: Sweetwaters Conservancy
Sweetwaters Conservancy is a two- to three-hour drive from Nairobi along country roads marked by colorful villages and distant views of Mount Kenya. The small not-for-profit conservancy has a number of safari activities not found in larger, national parks including escorted game walks and night game drives. In the afternoon, youâEUR(TM)ll meet Moran, a tame black rhino whose mother was killed by poachers, and Pocco, an orphaned chimpanzee, on a guided safari.
Day 6: Lake Nakuru National Park
Next up is Lake Nakuru National Park, a game park in central Kenya comprised of rocky hillsides, savannahs, and Lake Nakuru, a small lake that supports a dense bloom of blue-green algae. Millions of pink flamingos make their homes in its alkaline waters, where they feed on the algae. The park also contains a number of giraffes and waterbucks as well as one of the largest rhino populations in the country.
Days 7âEUR"10: Maasai Mara National Reserve
YouâEUR(TM)ll spend the last few days of the trip in the Maasai Mara National Reserve before heading home. The park, which is about 3.5 hours south of Lake Nakuru near the Tanzanian border, has one of the highest lion densities in the world. ItâEUR(TM)s also part of the Great Wildebeest MigrationâEUR"every year between July and October millions of wildebeests, zebras, and gazelle migrate through its grasslands.
