Tanzania Safari Package with Airfare

Tanzania Safari with Unlimited Game Drives in Three Parks

From August to September, the thunderous clamor of hooves and the swirl of dust clouds announce the migration of wildebeest and zebra across the Serengeti. Nearly 1.5 million animals cross the plains of northern Tanzania, following the rains to fresh grass and drinking water. Those visiting in the late summer can witness this great migration, but there are year-round natural spectacles in Tanzania’s game preserves as well. You can witness cheetahs on the hunt reach up to 68 miles per hour, hear the mighty roar of a lion, and see some of Africa’s largest crocodiles in action.

This nine-day, seven-night safari from Odyssey Safaris promises a range of experiences with Tanzanian wildlife on game drives in three different parks. The trip also includes round-trip airfare from Washington, DC (IAD), all accommodations, some meals, and the expertise of English-speaking guides and naturalists.

Days 1–3: Tarangire National Park

Following an overnight flight, you’ll spend a day in Arusha, a northern Tanzanian city located close to some of Africa’s most famous landscapes—Mount Kilimanjaro is only about 70 miles to the east. Then it’s off to Tarangire National Park, home to more than 500 bird species and large herds of elephants and giraffes. Though smaller than the Serengeti, the park has a denser concentration of wildlife, so visitors have a higher chance of seeing animals in action.

Accommodations: The African Tulip in Arusha and Tarangire Sopa Lodge in Tarangire

Days 4–5: Serengeti National Park

Frequently hailed as Africa’s greatest game park, Serengeti National Park is massive, with nearly 5,800 square miles of untapped wilderness. Only the occasional rocky outcropping or solitary tree breaks up the vast expanses of short-grass plains, giving the impression of a wide, golden sea. You can expect to see hyenas here—they’re everywhere—waiting to pick off the wildebeest that fall behind in a migrating herd. Other predators include jackals, leopards, and some 2,000 lions that have gotten used to human presence.

Accommodations: Serengeti Sopa Lodge, a five-star hotel

Days 6–9: Ngorongoro Crater Conservation Area

Often called the Eighth Wonder of the World, Ngorongoro Conservation Area encompasses a soaring plateau of volcanic highlands and craters. It was originally designed to accommodate indigenous Masai communities and visitors, so you’ll likely see villagers grazing their cattle and donkeys. Most of the tourist traffic centers on the Ngorongoro crater, the world’s largest unbroken volcanic caldera, which is densely packed with some 250,000 wild animals. Almost every East African species can be found here, including the prehistoric black rhinoceros.

Accommodations: Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge, located along the volcano crater
