Dimples History

The Blue Evening was opened in 1939 and was the very first licensed bar in Burbank and was surrounded by Warner Brothers, Universal Studios, Disney Studios and NBC Studios. Sal Ferraro reopened the "Blue Evening" in 1964 and renamed it "Now Voyager" after the 1940 movie with Better Davis & Paul Henreid. While at "The Voyage" Sal snapped thousands of pictures and to this day has the largest library of slides of any nightclub in the world. The slides were shown on multi-slide projectors in the club. In 1969 Sal opened Visa Travel for the in-house travel club called "Voyagers". They traveled to Mexico, Hawaii, cruised the Pacific and took weekend trips outside of L.A. Since then Sal has visited more than 100 countries and is a member of the "Century Travel Club". His motto: "Find new places and faces - Loosen your hold on the past - Latch on to something connected with tomorrow" has kept him young at heart. In 1982 Sal purchased the "Balkan House" and renamed it "Dimples" after the film staring Shirley Temple.

Dimples receives the greatest amount of news coverage of any nightclub in the world. Since it's opening in March 1982 as the first Karaoke club outside of Japan, Dimples has been written about in every newspaper in Los Angeles dating back to the L.A. Herald Examiner. Dimples has been featured on many TV shows: "The Tonight Show" with Jay Leno, "Friday on Sunset", "Blind Date", "Two On The Town", "Eye On L.A", "9 On The Town", "Elimadate", "Shirley Mania", "Jimmy Kimmel Show", "Cupid", "Facing Fame" and on the News programs of ABC, NBC and CBS. Dimples has been Showcased on Cable Channels VH1, MTV, E!, Channel 18 Japan, E! Australia, BBC and recently with Gloria Gaynor on CNN. Film makers have utilized Dimples as a location in such films as: "The Klumps" with Eddie Murphy & Janet Jackson, "Illicit Behavior" and "Second Chance" a film using Dimples as part of the storyline.
