Lasers reach beneath the surface of the skin to break up ink deposits, which are eventually absorbed by the body. This can fade or remove tattoos entirely. Patients may feel a sensation like the snap of a rubber band, and the skin may be red or swollen temporarily posttreatment.
Sessions should be scheduled 4–6 weeks apart. Areas larger than 5"x5" can be treated for an additional fee of $25 per inch.
