Jane's Saddlebag is a "hands on" historic educational experience, complete with the old restored "Saddlebag" home, original stone smokehouse, life size replica of a 1700's Flatboat, 100 year old mortise and tenon barn, and live farm animals.
The backbone of the experience is The Story of Big Bone Lick, a children's book written by owner Nancy Jordan Blackmore, about the rich history of this world famous fossil location.
Jane's Saddlebag Menu consists of a variety of fresh and healthy food along with favorites like homemade brownies, cookies and candy. We serve only the freshest food and promise something on the menu for everyone in the family. Each day we are open we have staples like burgers, metts, brats, dogs and of course our Frozen Ice Age Pies. Visitors look forward to new specials each day to feast upon as well.
The best way to describe Jane's Saddlebag is like going to your grandparent's farm. One of the first things you do at your Grandma's is eating good home cooking. Nancy is the cook and fixes the best home cooking in the county. Folks talk about the grilled Woolly Mammoth Burgers or Frozen Ice Age Pies. When regular visitors stop by, they simply ask Nancy "What should I eat today?"
Once you have satisfied your hunger it is time to explore the grounds. Today, the family farm is few and far between which makes the trip to Jane's so delightful. Families spend hours touring the facilities, visiting the petting zoo, and learning about the rich history Boone County has to offer.
