The Scouting Report
On the heels of a 2011–12 campaign that included winning the Western Conference playoffs and advancing to the Kelly Cup championship series, the Las Vegas Wranglers look to set themselves up for another deep postseason run. Through 39 games this season, the Wranglers have posted an 18–17–1–3 record. Though leading scorer Eric Lampe was recently called up to the AHL, the Wranglers offense still packs a punch with slap-shot-launching forwards Chris Francis and Scott Pitt, a recent acquisition who won the Kelly Cup last season with the Florida Everblades and was the second-leading scorer for that team. On the opposite end of the rink, goalie Joe Fallon continues to throw off opposing attacks by disappearing behind smoke bombs hidden beneath his pads.
Las Vegas Wranglers
A competitor in the East Coast Hockey League since its westward expansion in 2003, the Las Vegas Wranglers compete for the league’s coveted Kelly Cup. Sin City’s pack of puck-pushers defends their home ice at Orleans Arena with the help of a rowdy fan base and their mascot, Duke, a mythical, bull-like creature who can never leave the rink because there is always something red for him to charge at. As a contender in the highly competitive AA minor league filled with up-and-coming players, the Wranglers have sent a handful of the team’s one-time players and coaches to the National Hockey League.
