Family-Friendly Hotel Close to Napa Valley Wineries

Just a block from Best Western Plus Sonoma Valley Inn youâEUR(TM)ll find the 8-acre Sonoma Plaza, a National Historic Landmark. It was the site of 1846âEUR(TM)s Bear Flag Revolt and houses several 19th-century buildings, including the Mission San Francisco Solano, the only mission built after MexicoâEUR(TM)s independence from Spain. Many consider the original vineyards here to have been the birthplace of California winemaking, a tradition that continues today in Sonoma PlazaâEUR(TM)s many wine-tasting rooms. While staying at the Best Western Plus, you'll be just 20 minutes from the world-class vineyards of Napa Valley.

The hotel is family friendly with plenty of space, including a central courtyard. You can spend time relaxing in the large, heated, saltwater pool or gazebo-covered hot tub, or enjoy the views of the courtyard from your guest roomâEUR(TM)s private balcony. The room featured in this deal also has seating area facing a wood-burning fireplaceâEUR"a nice perk for SonomaâEUR(TM)s chilly winter evenings.

With this getaway, each guest will be granted passes for wine tastings at Sonoma vineyards such as Kenwood Vineyards, Mayo Family Winery, Cline Vineyards and Jacuzzi Family Winery, which is reminiscent of a country villa in the south of France. Wineries are subject to change.

Sonoma Valley, California: Relaxed Wine Country and Majestic Redwoods

Located about an hour north of San Francisco, the Sonoma Valley is best known for its wine, earning TripAdvisor's top wine destination in 2012. The mild climate here allows winemakers to grow cool-weather varietals such as pinot noir and chardonnay. But the valley has a varied landscape; some areas are prime for growing hot-weather vines, too.

Follow 17 miles of country roads that connect the sleepy hamlet of Kenwood to the Carneros Appellation and you'll find more than 40 boutique wineries, most small and family-owned. Many are tucked amid oak forests and wildflower meadows. Compared to its neighbor Napa Valley (about 17 miles away from Best Western Sonoma Valley Inn), Sonoma feels a little more relaxed and remote: the wineries here are generally more secluded from one another than those in Napa, and tasting rooms tend to be less crowded, even on the weekends.

Even if you aren't visiting for the vineyards, Sonoma Valley's gentle climate and diverse natural landscape make it worth a visit. Hiking trails wind past redwood trees as high as skyscrapers, and popular excursions are canoeing on Russian River and sightseeing at the craggy Pacific coastline and its unspoiled beaches.
