$12 Donation to Help Build a Dog Fence
The Issue: Trauma Suffered by Chained or Tethered Dogs
Dogs who live their lives tethered up are more vulnerable to attacks from other animals and may suffer physically from both the rope and the extreme temperatures of the outdoors, according to a report by the Humane Society of the United States. Common afflictions of dogs that are chained outside include eye, ear, and skin conditions, neck and back injuries incurred from tugging on the chain, and bleeding elbows from hard surfaces. The isolation of being chained also can cause timid behavior.
The Campaign: Building Fences to Free Chained Dogs
If 52 people donate $12 to this Grassroots campaign, then Fences For Fido can build a medium-sized fence, insulated dog housing, and moisture wicking bedding for Buddy, a 10-year-old akita mix that lives tethered because his family cannot afford to fence their yard. Volunteers will pound T-posts into the ground, stretch welded wire around them, and assemble a gate, allowing Buddy to roam free safely. Each additional $12 donation will go toward funding a fence to unchain another dog on the organization's waiting list.
