Without laughter, playgrounds would be silent except for the creaking of old swing sets and the trickling of tears into belowground aquifers. Celebrate the sound of mirth with this GrouponLive deal to a Secret Improv Society show at the Shelton Theater. Choose between the following options:
- For $17, you get two general-admission tickets to any Secret Improv Society show (up to a $40.50 value, including all fees). Shows are every Saturday at 10 p.m. See the schedule.
- For $28, you get two general-admission tickets to the Secret Improv Society Anniversary Show! and after-party on Saturday, April 13, at 10 p.m. (up to a $58 value, including all fees). Doors open 30 minutes before showtime. During the after-party, guests can sip complimentary champagne and mingle with members of the cast in celebration of Secret Improv Society’s four years of performances.
Secret Improv Society
Every Saturday night, the performers of the Secret Improv Society initiate a new batch of devotees into their alliance of short-form improv, comedic games, and live music. An audience of no more than 74 contributes to the content of each show in ways that exclude lobbing tomatoes or volunteering to be sawn in half. From random, spontaneous audience suggestions, the cast launches into an impromptu sketch that may skewer romantic relationships, office politics, or current events. Since the cast rotates and the audience changes, every 75- to 90-minute show is as fresh and unique as a dry-cleaned abstract expressionist painting.
Shelton Theater
Founded in 1993, the Shelton Theater is an extension of Shelton Studios, a film and theater school for actors and directors. Two intimate venues of 74 and 60 seats host film screenings, art exhibitions, and live performances such as poetry readings and musicals. As a nonprofit bastion of independent art, the Shelton Theater opens avenues of access to both its artists and patrons, with a location convenient for those who drive, take the BART or MUNI, or sleep on the venue’s roof.
