50% off at Hower House
While your style may not exude the early Victorian era's garb of white gloves, petticoats, or hoops, you can still appreciate a properly put-together ensemble. Outfit your appreciation of 19th century structures with the historic Hower House and pay $8 (regularly $16) for two tour tickets or $16 (regularly $32) for four tour tickets Wednesday through Saturday. This Second Empire Italianate structure, built in 1871 by Akron industrialist John Henry Hower and his wife Susan Youngker Hower, features 28 rooms filled with unique treasures and furnishings collected from the Hower's around-the-world travels. A lasting symbol of an era of elegance in America, the mansion sits on University of Akron's grounds and is officially recognized on the National Register for Historic Places. Boasting more than 3,500 pieces of decorative art objects, which are on a rotation display, the house features knowledgable tour guides that will take you through the abode and all its well-polished glory.
