The final term of the Chief Petty Officer, Walter (Wally) C. Harrison's 21 year career in the US Navy began in 1966 with a transfer half way around the world from San Miguel Naval Communication Station in Philippians to Silver Spring, Maryland Washington, D.C. Moving a family of seven to a large metropolitan area where the cost of living was much greater than it had been in the relative shelter of military housing and support facilities in the Philippians was a culture shock. With an eye on retirement from the Navy, Wally Harrison quickly concluded that he would need additional income to support his large family. While still serving in the Navy, Wally took a part time job working evening and weekends for a small local pizza chain called Pizza Oven. When Wally retired from the Navy, he accepted a full time position managing one of the Pizza Oven Restaurants. Having experienced the civil unrest of the late 1960's in the Washington D.C. area, Wally formed a plan in 1971 to move to a rural area in west Maryland. Wally was well liked by his employers and they allowed him to open up his own restaurant in Middletown, Maryland, in 1972 using the same Pizza Oven Recipes. The menu included pizza, Italian style subs, and spaghetti. Wally financed the cost of the equipment and built the restaurant fixtures himself with the help of his friends and family. Flashing forward to 2008, Eugene Burger, the owner of Carson Lanes Bowling Alley, in Carson City, Nevada decided to develop Carson Lanes to increase its attraction by adding new restaurants and activities. One of the desired restaurants was a pizza restaurant that could serve the patrons of the newly renovated bowling facility, as well as, provide carry out service to the local community. Eugene Burger, and the new staff of Wally's Pizza and Subs are committed to providing high quality food and fun filled experiences as part of the new Carson Lanes Family Fun Center.
