Gyptian

One of the most promising young stars to come out of Kingston in recent years, Gyptian broke onto the scene with the heartfelt plea “Serious Times” and his hit “Hold You.” Along with classic reggae messages, Gyptian shows a knack for incorporating R & B and hip-hop influences in his music.

“Nah Let Go”

Warning: some suggestive content

Don Carlos

Don Carlos grew up in the difficult Waterhouse district of Kingston, along with the other two founding members of the iconic group Black Uhuru. Now touring solo, Don Carlos preaches love and praises his maker in such songs as “I Love Jah” and “Movin'.” Even after influencing the scene for more than four decades, the performer still holds power: his 2002 live album inspired AllMusic's Jo-Ann Greene to proclaim, “A stellar band, a fabulous set, and the former Black Uhuru [member] having a whale of a time will ensure everyone within listening distance will share in the experience.”

“Just a Passing Glance”

Marlon Asher

Outside of Jamaica, Marlon Asher heralds the rising reggae movement in Trinidad and Tobago. From his choir-boy days to the present, Asher has considered himself an instrument of a higher power, and humbly strives to do good through his music and his works. Whether teaching neighborhood children to play the steelpan or pleading for the rights of the downtrodden planter, the musician hopes to change the world for the better, one dancehall at a time.

“Love of Jah”

Warning: some drug references and cautionary violence

Mike Love

Hawaiian Mike Love released his debut solo album, The Change I’m Seeking, in December 2012. In addition to his Wildfire performance, he is scheduled to appear at South by Southwest.

"Barber Shop"

Alex Marley

He never knew his legendary cousin Bob, who passed away six years before he was born, but Alex Marley is nevertheless made of the stuff of myth. A master of seven instruments at just 26, Alex plays his part in the family legacy with his energetic stage persona. The up-and-coming reggae man performs all over Jamaica on a regular basis and can be heard on radio stations around the world.
