Modern Cottages Steps from Lake Michigan
Modern Cottages Steps from Lake Michigan
Harbor Club South Haven sits on 40 acres of hilly woodlands and wetlands within walking distance of Lake Michigan. In the warmer months, guests can take advantage of the property's 110-slip marina. Come winter, lake-effect snow drifts onto southwest Michigan's tree-lined trails, attracting snowmobilers and cross-country skiers. Some access routes lead directly into South Haven, not far from Harbor Club’s wood-and-stone homes and cottages, which were designed to blend into the landscape.
Each of the three custom cottages features an open floor plan, with no walls separating common areas. Granite countertops and stainless-steel appliances add a sleek quality to the gourmet kitchen. A fireplace and flat-screen TV can be found in the living room and in some of the master suites. The 3,400-square-foot Meadow View cottage features a wraparound porch that provides a peaceful spot for surveying a nearby dragonfly pond. The Daydreamer cottage, meanwhile, sits right off a grand stairway leading down to the marina.
South Haven, Michigan: Small Town with Historical Harbor Walk and Outdoor Activities
A lumber town in the 19th century, South Haven later transformed into a boating center thanks to its prime location along the Black River. Steamers and schooners were built here before being shipped off to Chicago and Milwaukee. The town's harbor walk wraps around the mouth of the river and leads down a 1,200-foot-long pier toward a red iron lighthouse built in 1903. Along the way, the walk passes by the five buildings of the Michigan Maritime Museum, which includes a replica boathouse and an original U.S. Life-Saving Service crew quarters.
Linking South Haven with Kalamazoo to the east, the Kal-Haven Trail runs more than 30 miles and is popular with snowboarders in winter. As the weather warms up in the spring, hikers and bikers make use of Kal-Haven, while other visitors head to local championship golf courses and vineyards. South Haven sits at the tail end of what locals refer to as Michigan's Art Coast, a string of galleries lining the Blue Star Highway between South Haven and Saugatuck.
