Guys try Greencine.com they are based in San Fran and their mailing time is decent. They have a huge Anime section and also alot of hard to find DVDS plus you regular Hollywood stuff.

Thanks

Started my membership a couple of months ago. Service was fine for the first 4 weeks or so but now it is pass slow. I sent out 5 movies on Tuesday to a return center less than 3 hours away. It was a week later before receiving another disk. As soon as I get the old classics that I want then I will cancel this service once again.

NetFlix is full of crap!!!

I first joined in June 2003. I only rent anime dvds. During the first 2 wks trial, the delivery time was fantastic. I got 3 dvds every other day. When the trial was over, I signed up for the 8 DVDs out plan. First month, I managed to watch about 50+ movies. 2nd month, the delivery time slowed down to getting the DVDs every 2 or 3 days. However, still managed to get at least 40+ movies.

3rd month, I changed my plan to 5 DVDs out since I was busy in school. The delivery time was really bad. I could send out 3 DVDs at the same time and at the same Post Office, let's say on Monday, NetFlix would check in 1 on Tuesday, 1 on Thursday and 1 on Friday. THE ADDRESS ON THE RETURN ENVELOPE IS ONLY A 15 MINUTES DRIVE FROM MY HOUSE!!!! I was pretty annoyed for the whole 3rd month. 20 movies that month.

4th month, I decided to change it to 3 DVDs Out Plan since I thought that NetFlix slowed down my delivery because I watched too much. That was worse. My Postman came early around 1pm during that time. I remembered really clearly since I was waiting for new anime dvds to come everyday. Hence, I could finish watching 3 DVDs and return them before the last mail collection time before the Post Office closed. I sent out 3 movies around 4.30pm on Monday. NetFlix received 1 on Tuesday, another on Friday and 3rd the following Monday. Throughout the whole month, I only got 11 movies.

5th month, worst month ever, to find out if NetFlix was doing that intentionally, I sent 3 dvds out together in a priority mail envelope with delivery confirmation. It was shown that NetFlix received the dvds the very next day. HOWEVER, NetFlix notified me, they received 1 DVD that day, 2nd DVD on the 5th day and the 3rd DVD, 10 dayslater. The 2nd last week of the 5th month, this time, I sent 3 DVDs out individually in a priority mail envelope with delivery confirmation. The 3 DVDs reached them the very next day. HOWEVER, NetFlix only checked in the 1st DVD after the 5th day it was returned. The 2nd and 3rd DVDs, NetFlix claimed that they did not receive any and threatened to charge my credit card if I did not return the movies. I got soooo mad that I cancelled the subscription. 6 or 7 movies that month.

I emailed the customer service department, giving them all the Delivery Confirmation #s and told them that I would sue them if they were to charge my credit card for the movies I returned.
The very next day, I received an email saying that NetFlix received the 2 movies which they claimed intially that they did not receive.

I told myself not to subscribe to NetFlix again. However, I just started subscribing a week ago, last week of May 2004, again. My friend told me that NetFlix had expanded their Anime library. I wanted to watch the anime first before deciding if I would want to buy the sets. Well, it's the same thing again. (5 DVDs out Plan): Sent 2 DVDs out on Wednesday. NetFlix received 1 on Thursday, the other on Friday. Sent 3 DVDs out at 9am on Thursday at the post office. NetFlix hasn't receive them yet. *NetFlix RETURN ADDRESS IS A 15 MINS DRIVE AWAY FROM MY HOUSE!!!!* I think I'll cancel the subscription end of this month. If not, bear with it till I finish all those movies on my queue. 50 more to go.

I am really reluctant to rent from NetFlix. However, it has the biggest anime selection than other online dvd rental store.
Quality wise, most dvds have scratches on them. I had a few playback problems but it's not really a big deal.

Customer service is very unsatisfactory. They only responded to my emails with," There is nothing we could do since there is no check-in records for the dvds you sent back.""You have 7 days to return the dvds. If not, your credit card will be charged the full retail price for each dvds" etc etc.

I believe that NetFlix looks at the user's rental history. If you are able to watch a lot, they adjust your delivery time. I watch too fast and too many, that's why NetFlix try to stall the delivery time. I have friends who live only a couple of blocks from me, they only watch 3 or 4 dvds a week and their delivery times are superb, never exceed 1 day. 2 other classmates, who watch as much as I do, they live only 5 mins away from the address on the return envelope, they got the same crappy, lousy delivery time as I did.

As for WalMart DVD Rentals, I tried it too but there are 2 problems about it. Small collection and std delivery time----> 4-7 days. I tried the trial month. Throughout the month, maybe due to the delivery time, I had 4 dvds missing. WalMart do not have as many distributing centers as NetFlix. The nearest one to me is 10 hours drive away, in another state.

NetFlix has an awesome selection and the website makes it super easy to find interesting movies. You can see movie lists in different ways, by actor/actress, director, genre, etc as well as searches. These two features blow away any local store.

But... the turnaround time is too slow. A movie mailed on Monday should be returned by Friday. This allows a person to watch their three movies every weekend. Now if I mail on Monday, I'm lucky to get by Saturday. If it wasn't for the selection and the website, I'd cancel over this.

They claim to have distribution centers in Detroit and Chicago, which should be reasonably close to Fort Wayne, Indiana. But turnaround times are 5 days each way (or so they claim based on theri ship dates).

Its a ripoff unless you live in the big cities.

I live in Nassau county and they have a new center in Flushing which is about 30min away. The turn around time is excellent. I joined the $39.99 plan for 8 movies/unlimited plan. I can manage about 40+ dvds a month easily. I have yet to lose a DVD through the mail like another review i read here. The only gripe i have is that i wish they would work on the weekend also b/c a lot of times i shipp movies back on friday and i know it gets there by Saturday.. If they work saturday, i would have the movies then by monday. But instead i would get movies on tuesday if i ship back by friday. Other then that, this is a 5 star service and their selections are unbeatable.

I just want to say that with the internet being as it is this is a great service. I don't like standing in a store trying to think of what movie I want to see and being bothered by other people looking as well, or having someone asking me over and over if they can help me, when I don't know what I want. This is a great way for me to see the movies I want, missed and even the ones that I'm glad that I missed and it don't cost me anything that I would be mad about. I can send them back after I have looked at them twice and no late fee. That is great and I hope that things will continue on like they are and if there is any room for improvement then I hope they move into it and continue offering this great service. When the winter comes this is going to be the best thing going in my home. Thanks in Ohio

This isn't a direct fault of NetFlix....just a fault by association.

I live in the NY metro area, and apparently there's quite a few bad postal employees. I'm going to qualify this statement by saying that both my parents are postal workers. But I guess it only takes a couple of bad apples to ruin it for everyeone.

I've been a member for 1.5 years now. Starting about 6 months ago, DVDs would start disappearing on the way back to NetFlix. First once in a while, then to a ridiculous amount (In November - December 2002, more DVDs got lost than made it back to Netflix, something to the effect of 5 lost to 4 returned). The only recourse NetFlix gives is to file a complaint with the Postal Service. This is really pointless. I called back later to see about the status of the complaint. The answer I got was "the postal inspector asked the handler on-route and [some other position] and they said they don't recall seeing that mail". This is like asking a thief whether they stole anything, and whethery they would like to go to jail.

Now, my account's been suspended. I loved the service. Loved the DVD's, but this whole postal-service relationship has got to go. There's just no accountability

EDIT: oh, in case you were wondering, I did try different mail boxes all over the metro area (morristown NJ, harrison NJ, different zones in Manhattan). thieves everywhere.
