I would STRONGLY recommend that you do not buy from Abe's of Maine. I attempted to buy a 60" flat screen TV from them and after 8 days of hell I had to cancel (and order from one of their competitors) because they still hadn't shipped it and said it would be a 'few more days'.

Here are the details of the failed transaction if you are interested:

Sunday 2013-01-27 13:26:12: Placed the order on their website. Received a confirmation email that states 'Please allow 1-3 days processing time for your order'

Wednesday 2013-01-30: On this afternoon, the third business day after I placed the order I get a call from their representative under the guise that he wants to confirm that I was the one that placed the order and no one else was using my credit card. If that was the end of the conversation it would have been fine but he proceeded to try to extort $199 out of me for white glove treatment and wasting 15 minutes of my time doing it. He said that although I already selected the free shipping that they 'do not recommend it'. After getting off the phone with them I sent them an email demanding that they ship the TV and send me a tracking number within the next 24 hours.

Thursday 2013-01-30: Received an email back from them stating 'We are trying to process your order however your bank needs you to contact them to authorize the charge. Once you speak to your bank please contact me via email or call me at at so that we can ship out your order.' Within 45 minutes I had emailed Abe's back notifying them that I have verified the charge with my bank as valid.

Saturday 2013-02-02: Called and left a voice mail message for them as well as sending an email that said ' I just left you a voice mail message; this still doesn't show shipped on the website and you still haven't provided any tracking number. My patience with you/your company is running very thin. I know you are CLOSED today and tomorrow but I expect a call first thing Monday morning with an explanation. Thanks.'

Sunday 2013-02-03: Received an email from them that said 'Thank you very much for shopping with Abe's of Maine, I was out sick. We do apologize for any inconvenience. Did you want to cancel this order?'. I replied within 15 minutes and said 'Not if you will ship it on Monday. Please let me know.'

Monday 2013-02-04: Received an email from then that said 'Thank you very much for your response. It wont be shipping out for a few days. Would you like me to cancel the order and process a credit?'

I had had enough of their games. I sent them back a note that said 'So 2 hours before you quit for the day you send this message so I have no chance whatsoever to get this resolved without waiting another day. Why in the world would it take ANOTHER few days after you have charged my card and had the order for over a week. Your customer service is pathetic. You couldn't pick up the phone and call?

CANCEL THE ORDER and process the credit. I will be reporting your firm to the BBB and writing a scathing review or two on the most widely used public websites.'

I don't know if this qualifies as a scathing review; but I do know these are the facts. If you do business with this company you do so at your own risk.

i was a little skeptical to order at first from all those bad reviews about them. most bad reviews were on tv purchases, so it didn't concern me that much, and i gave it a try on a canon camera flash. they had the cheapest price on the net and they are authorized canon dealers. i order on early monday morning and got it the next day, i'm in NY and they're in NJ, so it's usually an overnight point with UPS or FEDEX. the product is new and genuine, but the warranty card is torn in half though, maybe the other half doesn't concern me? but it's still a warranty card from canon. overall a good experience, will buy from them again.

i did not check the rating of the store before ordering and was a little worried after i saw the comments.. how ever my exp was good.. the order was processed next day itself without any call or needing to call "to confirm" the order as some reviewers mentioned ..the item arrived on time.. it was new in the box.. the packing was lousy! But over all good exp.. Paid $470 every where else the item is sold for $599

This is MY experience, not usually one to write comments but almost always read comments. I don't think the negative comments accurately reflects anywhere close to what the POSITIVE experience i've had with Abe's (i'm not affiliated with them in no way, shape or form).

In 09-2008, ordered a Canon SD790IS on a Sunday night, confirmed order a few hours later, received shipping information/confirmation/tracking number mid-day on Monday. Received in CA 5 days later (UPS Ground shipping).

This morning 05/08/2009, placed an order for a Nikon DSLR lens. Received the confirmation a few hours later, and by 3pm-PST, i received a shipping confirmation/tracking information with scheduled delivery data.

I expect this lens to be a new product like my previously ordered camera. Each time, i've spent hours shopping for the best price, easiest to work with and friendliest website. I'm located in CA and i've had much experience working with Abe's competitors such as B&H, Adorama's, Ritz, etc. I give my kudos to this company and will continue to support them.

OK, I placed an order with Abe of Maine for Pentax K200D DSLR Camera before reading the comments here. I have read many bad reviews about Abe of Maine many places, after I place my order with them. I am very worry about my order, but this is my experience:

-Place my order at around 8am Monday morning;
-Got an email same day around 5pm saying the item was shipped via UPS (with tracking number, Shipping was free);
-Email them on Tuesday to ask if the item is brand new after reading bad reviews of them;
-Wednesday morning got reply email saying my stuff is brand new;
-Received my K200D in Wednesday evening. Product looks new.

They didn't pack the product well for shipping, and I guess that is the only problem.

I am happy that I did not go through the process some reviewers said, but had me worry enough!

Bought a HF100 camcorder from them. They will not place your order unless you speak to a sales rep. You will spend anywhere between 10 to 20 min on the phone trying to deny all that crap they are pushing on you, accessories, warranty etc. In my case I agreed to buy an authentic canon battery and charger ($110 value for $80), confirmed the part number and the brand with the rep several times. Got email confirmation and of course they gave me third party stuff incompatible with info-lithium technology my camera is using. I will have to ship it back. They will also use expedited shipping (marked it as "shipped" in the email and on website immediately after the talk to the rep) compared to typical 7-14 days shipping in such cases to take out the door and make it hard for you to return. They do not respond to your calls and you would need to leave a voice mail and they "will get back to you".. you wish. Do not fall for this crap. I will not accept the package so they would have to eat the shipping charges. They change the price on the main item to all the CC charge and make all accessories cost 0 (bundle it together) to make it impossible to break into parts and return only useless crap and keep the main item.
LIARS!!! BUYERS BEWARE! I will never buy from them again

Bin Laden's of New Jersey (I mean Abe's of Maine) website boasts of shipping within 24 to 48 hours.

The TV I ordered remained in "processing" for 8 days and now has moved to "in warehouse" status and still has not shipped!

Horrible. I am afraid to see what they are going to ship.

Ordered a dishwasher through them. Got the dishwasher shipped through ground to Va. Got the dishwasher early. No problems here.

Absolutely the worst people to deal with. Ordered $1200 worth of camera equipment and they were pissed when they couldn't up-sell me. They tried to tell me that a factory Nikon battery takes 6 - 12 hours to charge and that I had to buy a new one. When I told them that I was looking at the specs on nikonians.org and that it charges in 30 minutes, they still had the nerve to try and sell me the battery. Their second pitch was, "Do you want it or not?". I didn't purchase and they didn't ship my order for 6 days. It took 2.5 weeks to arrive. Pathetic.

BUYER BEWARE....I recently purchased a Nikon Coolscan scanner. Abe of Maine presented and led me to believe the item was new. However, once opening the box it was obviously the item had previously been opened. They attempted to re-tape and repackage to make it look new. On my first scan I was able to confirm it was previously used as the dust and debris build-up was a compromise to the quality of scan I was able to achieve.
