I bought a canon lens from them. I did not like it and they let me return it for credit. It is not the best place for customer service but if you know what you want then you should be ok. Also note their shipping is really high.

The comments about this being a "front" are ridiculous. If you're going to get the best prices on photo equipment, you're going to have to l;earn to deal with the NY stores. Rule #1: order online. You avoid bait & switch that way. And let me go one step further on the "front" point: Nikon lists them as an authorized dealer. "Front" stores don't get this. I've been using Abe's for over a decade and have always been happy. Mosr recent purchase was a Nikon SB-600, came in perfect shape.

These people are dishonest. I tried to buy 7 cameras and when i wasnt going to buy extras they told me they are not allowed to sell more than 1. What a ridiculous lie. They were then very unprofressional when they realized that i wasnt the type of customer they wanted (someone buying one who can be convinced to buy additional stuff).

I ordered a D70 Nikon and 18-70DX kit from Abe's two weeks ago. I had to contact them about my order number as I had lost the note with that info. Their customer service rep was patient and considerate. The camera arrived on time and at a better then good price. Many stores that I talked to about the D70 tried bait and switch tactics on me. I won't even waste my time contacting any of them. Abe's will have my business from now on.

Abes of Maine lied about the camcorder being in stock and now refuses to cancel my order (they billed my credit card ten days ago).
After half an hour on hold I got a "manager" who called me "stupid" and was beyond rude with me. I politely kept saying that I just want to cancel my order. He tried to bully me into waiting a couple more weeks. When I refused, he told me to "hold" again. I don't know how long I've been holding, but it's a loooong time!

I have been trying to cancel an order I placed with them - they don't have the item in stock and don't know when they'll get it - but they still charged my credit card. Their phone system says they'll be closed for a few days in September but that was weeks ago. Then I get a message saying all mailboxes are full and I can't leave a message. I buy a lot of stuff on the internet, and this is the worst experience I've ever had. - sheureka

I have to admitted I had my worst online shopping experiance with abes of maine as well. Not only the camera delivered was disfunctional, but the CSR was rude and impatient, hanging up the phone in the middle of the talk.

Today I found a deal on ABES of Maine. On their webpage, it says PRICE IS AVAILABLE FOR THIS WEEKEND ONLY! Oh well, today is Tues. What is that supposed to mean? So I gave them a phone call.
The person who answered the phone call was extremely rude! I don't even know if he was listening to me or not. The only thing he said was: do you want to place an order? Then when I asked "which weekend do you mean?" He said, "this weekend! NOW!" Then he said "Ok. Thank you." Then hang on the phone.
