I got so sick of calling 777-film with its endless commercials and previews and its inefficient voice-prompt system that I had to find a creative way to get movie listings while I was already out.

The best thing I've found thus far is 4info. Basically, you send a text message with the movie title you're searching for and your zip code; you text this to 4info (44636). Example: "blood diamond 94040". They will reply with local movie listings and options so you can text back and forth until you've found the perfect time and showing for your needs.

So far I've used 4info only for movies, but apparently you can use it for stocks updates, sports updates, daily horoscopes, weather, flight statuses -- it works really great if you know what you're searching for. Check out their website, 4info.net, to see all the different services they offer, and how to use each particular one. Very cool stuff.

Hey peeps, just thought I'd spread the cheer and also indulge my phone fascination. Basically, there's a new text service out there -- free -- and it's basically for focused searching. If you want a weather update, text "w" plus your zip code to 4info (44636) and in seconds you'll get a weather update texted back to you. That's just an example. Same thing with stock quotes and horoscopes (if you're into that kind of thing) and pickup lines if you can believe it and so many other slices of info that I can't list 'em all here (check out their site for the whole juicy menu). Anyway, I tried it out for flight statuses last weekend when I was sitting on the train trying to get to the airport. It was a nice little reassurance to get texted back and see that my flight was on time. I can't deny that it's also fun and slightly addictive. Peace out, all. Jacobsen.
