Have dealt with this company for a couple of years, but probably not much longer.
Items constantly out of stock for months (website says in stock when order placed)
They call to increase their shipping charges AFTER I place an online order.
They ignore the Fatwallet rebate scheme altogether.
My latest order was for an item weighing less than 1 pound - they charged me $10-98 shipping & insurance and then shipped via FedEx Ground Saver - a full 7 days to cross one State !

CROOKS! Charged my card $5.99 for a $4 item. Never shipped goods. Claimed they would refund but AMEX confirms that Sportsmans Guide has confirmed the charge as valid and taken the money. Two weeks and still promises but no credit.
Had to DISPUTE charge with AMEX to try and get my money back! CROOKS! CROOKS! CROOKS!

I've been a customer of the The Sportsmans Guide for a couple of years. I also belong to their buyers club. Deals can be exceptional. For instance, this Christmas 2005, I was looking to buy a Play N' Roll or Roll It Up portable piano. Sharper Image had the item for $59.95... The Sportmans Guide had it for $44.95 plus free shipping!

The Sportsman's Guide catalog looks like about the last catalog I would expect to eagerly read when it arrives. On its face, it looks like a hodge-podge of hunting gear and military surplus. And yet inside I recently found an excellent deal on a replica of a Tiffany lamp and an assortment of Russell t-shirts. Even better, my orders arrived very promptly and as described. I've heard other people say that some of the item descriptions can be somewhat over-promised, but I think at the prices you get a good deal. Sure on close inspection the lamp is not the most carefully made fixture, but for $15 it was an excellent value. My only complaint was the descripton for the t-shirts I ordered said you could pick one color out of five and then they simply sent me all the same color. But again, for something like $2 per shirt, I felt that was OK. What can you expect for that price? Overall, I think The Sportsman's Guide catalog is a great place to look for bargains, as long as you keep in mind that you have to have a realistic expectation at such low prices.
