<![CDATA[Help: Flying to SFO and back, on award travel: possible to drop out at LAX stop on onward journey?]]> http://www.fatwallet.com/forums/travel-discussion/1356947/ Rating: 0 Posted By: invisible
Views: 953 Replies: 13

Flying to SFO (and returning from SFO) on Delta award tickets: onward journey is via LA (LAX), return via Atlanta,GA.
Question:Is it possible to get off at LAX during onward journey? Any danger of getting return tickets canceled?

Since we were planning to visit LA anyway by car during the long vacation stay in California, it makes sense to start at LA and drive up to SFO then fly back from SFO, rather than making round trip journey from SFO by car to LAX during California stay.

Best if we can just get off at LAX, then drive to SFO after a few days, then after few days make return flight from SFO -- Any danger of Delta canceling our return journey due to now show in one leg?

According to this, seems difficult to do:

I had heard about this "Hidden City" but for us this is accidentally coming up after booking award travel: and wanted to know how best to deal.

Anyone done this recently to jump of a non-terminal leg of the journey and still make remainder legs? (2nd leg of 4 part return trip in our case, with 4 family members in our case. Will airline listen to some medical reason or otherwise if told frankly (before or at LAX)?

Can't afford to get the Award travel canceled and re-booking will now not work due to filled lowest mileage slots for those legs on those dates.

My Wife two kids and I are looking into going to Disney around Halloween. We thought about making the 18 hour drive but don't want to give up the extra day and a half of "play time". Any suggestions on flights from Milwaukee to Orlando? I have not flown in so long i guess I'm outta the loop. Are some days cheaper to fly, direct vs connectors, etc.

My travel dates are 4/17 -4/20/2014. I am staying in Honolulu and looking for hotels prices between $99-$130. I've read so many horrid stories about sites like Priceline and don't want to risk it. There was a blog about these site that stated they are ripping people off and that you can call the hotel directly and get the same deal or even better. Also, in my search the cheaper ones are a short distance(5-10min) walk from the beach which I really don't mind but you have to be careful about fluffing of the quality.

Book a 7 night cruise Departing April 11 and returning April 18th. (category IX, inside cabin). Departing Miami for Roatan, Belize, Cozumel and Key West onboard the Norwegian Pearl for the rate of $179 PP plus taxes and fees. This figures to a grand total of $606.14 for two people (taxes/fees are $124.07 PP) booking directly on ncl.comwebsite. That is $43 per night per person. Just include the tip ($12 per day per person) Grand total around $55 PP/PD. The YMMV is due to the rate is based on your state of residence and other factors that *could* lower the total price. Also FYI some sites also offer OBC that lowers the total as well.

I have been searching for flights from Cali (san fran, LA. whatever) to Manila for the past month and have been unable to find any great deals. I'm wondering if the fatter wallets out there( I still got it) know of some better search engines or travel specials. We are up to fly out of ANY mainland U.S. state if you think you know of a cheaper one

I am looking to go around May 9- May 25 and am a bit flexible. Not many flights under 1k per person. Plus we have an infant and only a few airlines(China Air, EVR for sure) offer 10% lap seat. Some airlines make you pay 50% and some full price (without a seat).

I have tried kayak, Orbitz, Travelocity, Travelzoo, Airfare watchdog and others but still only see $950+ per person.
Are there better engines designed for international air? CheapOair shows the best price, but better times are gone.
We should have flights of under 20 hrs each way, but I am not going to save a few bucks to sit in an airport 35 hours.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Beginning April 1, 2025, Spirit will offer travelers the option of purchasing a full flat-bed seat in a slim-line, light-weight design. Our Mother of All Sleeper (M.O.A.S) bed will offer an unparalleled flight experience in the belly (luggage area) of each of our Airbus A320 family aircraft. One hundred private suites among the five-hundred M.O.A.S. beds will also be available to purchase.

Optional Product Fees (available only in conjunction with purchase of a M.O.A.S. flat-bed accommodation):

Heavy wool blankets - $19.95 (not guaranteed effective above 15,000 feet)
Oxygen Mask - $49.98 (when and where available not guaranteed on all flights)
2-foot bed extender - $299.99 (beds vary in length; typically fit customers up to 5'6" in height if knees are bent slightly)
Sleep-aid pills - $159.99

Available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Temperatures in the belly vary but are typically about 40 degrees Fahrenheit (think meat locker). Due to security concerns, passengers are not allowed to bring their own blankets. Spirit is not liable for any injuries or scratches incurred as a direct result of the use of any blanket purchased on board.

Passengers will load through the cargo doors. There is no elevator service available from belly of the aircraft to the main cabin. I've been trying to find info on this for a few days. I was looking to rent a car next month. I'm happy to report the following.

My rentalis a 1 way from HHH to AGS for 1 day. My base rate was $40.11. I went to Discover, got the national car rental certificate and put it in at nationalcar.com.

My subtotal was $0.00. After taxes and fees. It turned out to be $8.89!
My mom is renting a one way out of Florida for $9.95/day. If you're over 4 days (My mother is for 6). Her total came out to $48.xx after taxes/fees. It did combine with a corp ID.

It's as if it will take $40 off the base rate if it's higher than $40, at least in my experience so far.

This is an FYI for anyone who has thought about it through their Discover CashBack. I had a hard time finding good info and was nervous about pulling the trigger.

This may be a weird question, but if I book a flight with a connection but want to stay in the connecting city, am I somehow required to catch my connection?

I'm looking for flights from San Francisco to Kona, Hawaii and I found that the cheapest flight for the particular dates I want looks something like this:
Depart: SFO > KOA
Return: KOA > SFO > Los Angeles (LAX) > San Jose (SJC)

If I book that above itinerary, it's about $150 CHEAPER than if I book the same trip but end it at SFO. I would like to book it and just not catch that flight down to LA and back up to San Jose and take train from San Jose back to SFO... that'd just be crazy.

I can't imagine someone forcing me back onto to plane but obviously United will know that I didn't get on that flight. Is there some way for them to penalize me or levy some fine?

I've never encountered something like this before and hoped someone here can help.

I decided to redeem my Southwest Rapid Reward Points for a trip to NYC for my fam of 4 on a 4 night trip. This is our first trip here and have not researched much about NYC yet but next step is booking a room for our trip in June. I'd like to be in a hotel in NYC within a reasonable distance to the subways. I have about 80K UR points which I just checked could be transfered into Hyatt gold points and redeemed at Hyatt Place New York/Midtown-South at a rate of 20K points per $329 a night for a total price of $1316. However I can also sell these points at a rate of 1.4 for $1120 so I'm essentially paying a discount of price of $1120 for a hotel that advertises for $1316.... seems like I can do better than this. My next step is to see what discounts I can find on the usual travel sites and Groupon. Any other suggestions for me to consider? thanks

My plane leaves Austin, airport at 7:29am. The enterprise car rental office opens at 6:30am.

Do these times work or would I be cutting it too close? I can't get better flight times for a similar price.

update: Contacted Enterprise corporate. They said they make no provision for staying open after 11:30pm if a flight is delayed. However, I can leave the car before they open at 6:30am.

A solution may be to make two reservations. One at Enterprise and another at another company that stays open later. If my plane arrives on time I cancel the other reservation at the last minute without penalty.

We have booked JFK-India return trip for 4 travelers in July-Aug 2014 (3 weeks) to visit family in our native place. By chance, the flight from JFK leaves at 11 AM (Airbus 380) and reaches DXB the next day 8 AM and the next available flight to our destination will leave only after 12 hours (at 9.30 PM, reaching COKat 3 AM). In our case, we had booked the following flight leaving at 3 AM next day so we reach conveniently in the morning at 9 AM. Emirates is denying us any accommodation (to sleep / rest) at DXB for a 19 hour lay over saying our ticket is not eligible. FYI, the cost of the tickets was paid by credit card in full. This is crazy as after 13 hour Trans-Atlantic flight, family of 4 are left to hang around the DXB airport. While Emirates website says hotel stay & food will be provided for >8 hr layover, they state it will be based on your ticket and not for all passengers with > 8 hr layover. Appears Emirates starting to treat their passengers like animals. I appealed few times but Emirates do not budge. Have anyone faced similar issue in the near time? And what was the outcome ? Thanks.

Me and wifey are looking to vacation for 8-9 days in Europe. Dates are final (April 17/18 - April 27/28),but quite flexible with destination (preferably somewhere in Italy/France/Gemany/Switzerland- obviously not all, but any one depending on what works for airfare).

We will be flying out of ORD Chicago, okay with reasonable stop overs (total trip not exceeding 13 hours).

I have already looked into previous forums and checked several sites including ITA matrix. Best that I see is around $1,000. I was hoping for something in the $750 - $800 price range.

Are there any sites you recommend or is Priceline a viable option? Thanks in advance.

Hi all

Wanted to get some advice as to what I should or can do in light of a bad car rental experience at MCO. Besides a horrendous wait time (almost 2 hours) in line, the agent who helped me basically tacked on SLI (Supplemental Liability Insurance), and when I inquired about this, she said it's mandatory/required in Florida... I just emailed Budget directly about this, as I thought it was a bit strange, and they told me it's definitely optional and not required or mandated in the state of Florida. The same agent also misinformed me about tolls in the area, stating there would be no tolls where we were headed. Again, she was wrong as we passed two tolls that we paid for (I was prepared to pay anyway).

In either case, we either got an agent dumber than a box of rocks or she was being extremely dishonest and 'upselling' us on SLI to potentially get some commission out of it.

At this point, is there anything I can or should do about it? Obviously I signed the contract and trusted her word about SLI (but the issue is that she was either greatly misinformed or dishonest... I'm leaning more towards dishonest though). Even after I read in some states SLI is mandated but generally if you have your own insurance you *should* be covered. One of those things where, if you don't happen to know off the top of your head at the moment, you're kinda stuck...

Any advice? I've already emailed Budget initially to inquire as to whether or not SLI is mandated, and got their reply - just replied back stating my displeasure at this level of service.

We are going to Sicily, Croatia, and Austria next month so we are on the hunt for travel apps that may save some money on our trip. I found these2 interesting "money-saving"apps:

  1. Onavo- This is supposed to cut the data usage on your phone by 5X. It reducesroaming charges.Found a good review of it on PCmag here that mentions the big savings:http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2393941,00.asp
  2. WhatsAPP - App allows free textingand group chats.

What about you? Any travel apps to help you save (especially on international trips)? Let's list them here.

My son is getting married this summer and my wife and I have decided to pay for the honeymoon. They need to take the trip from July 14-20, due to work schedules, and are set on the Caribbean. Im a complete tightwad and cant purchase things unless I know Im getting a killer deal but unfortunately, planning trips is something I dont do. Id like to keep the total under $4000 for the week, including airfare. Im not sure if an all-inclusive deal would be beneficial as they dont drink or eat much and that might be money wasted. I do want it to be a very nice, memorable trip.

If you guys know of any sites with great deals or a starting point on my journey to saving money Id greatly appreciate it!

<![CDATA[Looking for combination park deal that includes Universal Orlando but not water parks]]> http://www.fatwallet.com/forums/travel-discussion/1345670/ Rating: 0 Posted By: IStillPickUpPennies
Views: 2331 Replies: 6

We nearly went to California for our spring vacation. At that point, I was looking at getting a "Go Los Angeles" card, which for $263 would have given us 5 days with Six Flags, Knotts Berry Farm, Legoland California & Universal Studios. Instead, we decided to go to Orlando and take a Disney Cruise. Before the cruise, we have 6 days in Orlando. We did Disney last time, and this time would like to focus on Universal, and perhaps a day at Legoland or another park. We are staying at the Coco Key water park & resort, so we are not interested in water parks.

So far I haven't had any luck in finding a decent deal that includes Universal Islands, Universal Studios, plus possibly Legoland. I have been able to find a Go Orlando card - $263 for 4 days, has Legoland but no Universal, and a bunch of other stuff we don't want. I also came across a $304 "Orlando Flex Ticket", which has the 2 Universal parks, plus 3 parks we don't want. (Seaworld & 2 water parks) I just can't seem to find the combination that we want!

Also, I know that I previously saw a "dine all day" option at Universal Orlando that let you stop at their fast service restaurants multiple times all day for about 25 bucks, but that seems to be gone now - replaced with a "eat one meal for $20" plan, evidently. Argh!

If anyone has been to Universal Orlando recently, and has any tips for saving $$, I would appreciate any ideas. Thanks!

In what marks a fundamental shift to its frequent-flier program, Delta will become the first major network carrier in the U.S. to have passengers earn award miles based on the fare they pay, rather than how far they fly.

Starting today, members of Delta's SkyMiles program who book a trip taking place after Dec. 31 will accumulate miles under the new model.

No longer will a flier who pays the cheapest fare in Coach be able to earn the same number of miles as a fellow passenger who purchased a perch in business class. Instead, the flier who spends more for a first-class seat or perhaps a last-minute business trek will also earn more.

I need to rent a car for a three-day weekend trip to Orlando in March. It's generally more expensive to rent and return at the airport, so I'm wondering if anyone has recommendations for rental agencies within a short cab ride of the Orlando airport (MCO). I want to avoid an extra driver charge, if possible, so would prefer not to rent from Dollar or Thrifty, which offer no way around that.

Most of you probable know about the TSA Pre-Check program wher for a fee of $85, you get to ge through the Pre-Check line (no taking off shoes or taking off jacket, etc) at the airport for 5 years.

Enrollment in this program requires you to do a face-to-face interview at centers across the country. When I tried to schedule an interview in the Los Angeles area I always found that I had to wait for over a month for a scheduled appointment. Finally I just bit the bullet and went to a center to do the interview on a stand-by basis. I went in at 9:00 in the morning to Signasl Hill and surprise, had to wait less than 5 minutes. The interviewer told me that 15 minutes was the norm for walk-ins early in the morning - much better than waiting nearly a month for a scheduled appointment.
