Overstock has it $454.99-15% coupon+$2.95 shipping=$389.69-$15.56(%4 FatCash)=$374.13

I know that there is a thread for overstock 15%, however I guess that this is a good deal worthy a seperated thread.

I got it the last week with 10% coupon.

It is coming with nikon box marked as reconditioned. so I guess it is directly form nikon. Not grey box refurbished item.

Coming with all accessories, and three monthes warranties.

this body only deal is good for people hate the kit lens. I recommend the lens : Tamron 28-75mm F2.8 lens . This lens now has $30 rebate from tamron. Google this lens, you will be happy with the good reviews all over the world.

Enjoy,

Nikon D50 link

By the way, 15% off link is in the quick links below

To those who worried about refurbished item, especially how much the shutter had been used. there is a free software to check the times that shutter has been used.

http://www.opanda.com/en/download/index.html

get the free Opanda IExif & IExifPro -- Professional EXIF / GPS / IPTC Info Viewer.

Just take a jepg picture and use this software to open that picture, then you can see the shutter times in this software.

So, you will be sure of your toy.

Search the Tamrom lens in pricegrabber.com, the cheapest is about $320 after rebate. This Tamron lens with 6 years warranty.

I can't get the FatCash discount to apply.

Get on eBay and bid. I got D50 with two lens for somewhat over 600. Mint condition and am very satisfied with it.

Be aware that if you get a 28-75mm lens, you will have no wide angle capability (which the range in which most people shoot most shots, especially indoors). This is due to the 1.6 crop factor, making the lens equivalent to a 45-120mm lens for a 35mm film camera.

You still have the alternative of picking up either the kit lens, or something similar, on eBay.

EDIT: onlycom (3 posts down) has corrected my wildly inaccurate calculations. It's really 42-112.5mm. Man, that was just completely "wrong info" I was giving out.

Still, OP has posted a great deal on a great camera.

I just bought this yesterday, didn't opt to get the 2 year platinum protection plan,

Waiting for my 18-200mm VR lens to come in.

Sure, the tamron lens is not best, however for the price, one can not ask for more.

By the way, do not touch nikon DX lens. I think the whole format 135 camera will become afforable in three years. So, Never regret to invest in whole format lens.

wrong info here.

Nikon D50's FOV crop factor is 1.5x

thus 28-75mm equals to 42-112.5mm.

while it is generally true that people use some wide angle side, you cannot strictly assume that most people shoot in wide angle. besides, with DSLR, you probably need more than one lens to cover your shooting needs.

heh great deal on this camera, I was gonna post this last night, but forgot. Too bad I lack the funds for this

Know that you are getting a refurbished product tho, and with nikons average shutter life being 50k shots, you camera may show up with a shutter that will need to be replaced soon.

I can answer any questions about this camera.

My lens:I have a sigma 18 - 125mm lens
and a quantarry 30 - 300 mm /macro ELO

Just so people know, the kit lens on the d50 is a piece of crap and should be avoided.
Manually focusing this lens is akward, not only because the range of motion is small - making it difficult to do small adjustments - but the lens will focus "past infinity" quite a bit (like 20%). Also, if you "bump" the camera (even very) gently, the manual focus will get "bumped" out of position - fireworks exploding overhead will mess up your manual focus. D50 does have some issues with auto focusing at night at the stars, moon, etc.

IR Remotes are cheap for the d50 ($18), but overstock doesn't have any.
Oh, get screen protectors for the lcd (get some pda ones and cut to fit) the back doesn't scratch easily, but you can scratch it. Kind of surprised that Nikon didn't put in a bevel or something to protect it.

Also, (just a FYI/do you know how lucky you are) a d50 kit in Caada at costco is $999 plus 15% tax.

So, if you see something like this...

Warranty is only 90 days, which makes this a bit iffy. I'd toss down $80 for a camera bag and an additional 2 year warranty from nikon - not sure if the warranty works with refurbs tho

Would sure suck if it broke on a trip though...

the best deal ever in recent several months.

I've read that you can actually use Nikkor AI lenses...they won't meter so you have to use external metering (I've several Nikkor normal, wide and 100 and 200...but alas without the coupling for metering).

Is it correct that I can use these? Anyone have experience? I've read several great websites that speak to this issue, and I would like to hear from those who have used these lenses with the D series.

Appreciate the comments from those who have. (Or have decided that's an awful idea, too.)
