I saw this deal in the weekly ad:
Battlefield 2142
At BB and CC its $49.99
BB, you can get a $10 Gift card if your a reward zone member.
I know this isn't super hot compared to the Family Video deal but it beats waiting for the shipping

Warning: The game serves ads that it pulls off the net. Some people think this means SPYWARE. Please feel free to not buy it.
You may have read that it monitors your internet access and such. This is not true. While it does pull down ads from the internet for in-game advertising, it does not monitor anything you do outside the game. The only spyware-like action it does is see what ads you look at in the game, which of course makes sense because they get paid based on what you look at. There is a lot of FUD going around on this front.
Bestbuy has this for $49.99, but comes with a $10 gift card. Factoring in tax, its a buck or so cheaper

PM @ BB to target, get the $10 too with the right cashier
When I did this with other PM's they didn't even care
the $10 Gift card are for reward members only
give it some time..should see 29.99 soon after release ![]()
RewardZone is now free, but the points are worth even less (%2 in BB money).

Totally, especially since the game stinks!
Demo sux... reminds me of Halo. I will stick with BF2...
i'd say pass on this junk of overpriced bf2 mod.
Not worth $40, IMO, even if you are a BF fan.
WARNING WARNING WARNING.
CGW
and reports from Battflefield Combat...
Battlefield 2142 Contains SPYWARE. It will install and run all the time monitoring your computer ussage and trasmite the data to an ad agency, so that EA can get more cash.
The only way to not get EA-Spyware is to NOT INSTALL THE GAME.
You've been warned.
I gave the thread a red. I suggest anyone interested, actually read the letter EA is including with the game. It's hidious. For people who like running their computer free of spy-ware, it's a depressing day. I don't know what I'll do if Spore includes that malware![]()
oh no. i have intstalled the demo of BF 2142...
BF 2142 has in-game billboards. Everything I see on the disclaimer attached looks like it refers to those billboards - uploading new ads to you periodically and monitoring if you look at them or try to blow them up. Is there any other data on this supposed spyware?

read the note carefully.,
you are not only installing bf2142 with ads.
You are installing IGA software, which then delivers these ads, this software montiors your pc use. to deliver ads to your location, and to what you might be interested in.
i.e. a person somewhere in wisconsin would see a ad for the greenbacy packers. a person in illionis a ad for the bears. etc.
An update from one of the hysterical articles:
John [John Hargelid of DICE] told me that it's an integrated module in the game that's only active when you play. This is used to gather statistics on the ads that will be in Battlefield 2142.
John says that there are no connections what so ever to spyware and that the code doesn't send information about your surfing habits. The information that is transmitted to DICE/EA has nothing to do with your personal surfing habits.
In conclusion: No information regarding your surfing habits will be transmitted and the program is only active when you play Battlefield 2142. The only statistics that are sent are from the in game ads in Battlefield 2142.
Another EA interview on the issue is here.
Check your bf2142 demos readmes...
"Players who have the Windows security update KB917422 installed may suffer from an application error when running the Battlefield 2142 demo. This error can be solved by uninstalling the KB917422 update."
This is what Microsoft.com says about update #KB917422 :
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...&displaylang=en
" A security issue has been identified in the Windows Kernel that could allow an attacker to compromise your Windows-based system and gain control over it."
Harmless huh?

Looks like it's helping out everyone...
So much so that people are being paid off to post here...
I was an EA fan , running BF 1942, road to rome & BFvietnam on my network.
Buggy games that required me to upgrade all my systems, then BF2 required not only at least a Geforce 5 or ATI 8500 or higher but also a seperate game (key#) for each system. Glad I read this thread, will pass on 2142 even though we really need some new games (CS , CoD2, BHD & UR2004 are getting boring).
+ I hate spyware popups and the like.
