OPs addtion: Uou need ATA box and broadband in India. ALL VOIP providers will serve this way (though you have to take care of ATA and broadband yourself). Low cost examples are: Vonage, Viatalk, Lingo, VBuzzer, VOIPBuster and numerous others. Voxilla is an authentic source for comparing VOIP providers

Update by Acura03 Aug 17th 2007 :
Now another new service from VSNL - launches aug 21st 2007.
rediff news link
True Roots dot US

Not sure if this needs a new thread.. especially if they have any interesting signup offers.
Just a Heads up anyways. Updated Quick summary.

Airtel charges a $5 fee for adding hotline numbers every 6 months

Startec went to 5c per minute.

Intervoip.com is another one to try via your own ATA but charge in small increments and charge via Virtual card because they have some negative publicity on the net.

Lingo is showing rate of 2.9c both mobile and land line.

Hi
Continuing with the same topic abt calling india ... i am not sure how many of yall use VOIP solutions to call home like Vonage, etc
I use a service called tringotel (TringoTel) thats VOIP based, it gives u a USA number to use in India and charges only 6$ a month for unlimited incoming and 100 minutes outgoing ...
the quality is good, there is no delay or lag ....

though would just share it with yall\\

Not sure?! How is this different from all other voips?
e.g.
Get SR for $199/2 years
1. $8.3/mo
2. Get $3.00 international call credit.
3. Free equip + free s/h

Of course you need to wait for the deal.

Thanks OP.
For me it looks like 'Relaible Calling 7.5c/minute Reliable Calling ' is the better one.. no wait for registration, and good quality(just made only one call though) for reasonable rate. Tried to register for airtel , but could not get the customer agent after trying for an hr.. stana card sucks in quality..

vissu19 said:I have been using www.teliage.com for the past five months and I can say their service is better than reliance india. It works just like reliance - u can setup multiple phone numbers for pinless dialing. You can also setup shortcuts for frequently called numbers. They charge around 8.4c/min during day time and 7.4c for offpeak hours (I think its 12AM to 7AM CST).
