Now the rebate posted at Amazon still shows that it is valid until October 27th so despite Amazon's declaration that TiVo rebates aren't valid right now this might be a money making situation.

Just like the TiVo deal at Big Lots YMMV on the rebate. Looks like TiVo is trying to clear out this model in a hurry.

That sucks considering the gift card can be applied to new activations only.

What's going to make this deal is if you can get the $170 rebate in conjunction with the gift card. Then you basically get a free TiVo and a free year of service.

I signed up for the three-year prepaid plan.

The Amazon deal you have the small chance of cashing in on the $150 rebate. Also this deal is really good for those who want to take their current TiVo and upgrade (assuming prepaid service or monthly) without having to have another commitment. You can sell of the card on Flea Bay or CL and upgrade for a small fee.
