Offer expires 01/31/08. Offer good only in US. Cardmembers will receive their American Express® Branded prepaid movie card 6-8 weeks after the end of the promotion period. Movie cards have a six month expiration date and can only be used at theaters that accept the American Express® Card. Card is point-based with 1 point = $1 in purchasing power. ©2007 American Express Travel Related Services Company, Inc. All rights reserved.

I am sure this is a good deal to score a free $10 movie card that is valid for six months, BUT be warned that there is a 50 cent processing fee and a 99 cent shipping fee (I chose one of their generic cards). So you can't use ONE of your $25 American Express gift cards to pay for this because you will be short at least $1.49 unless they take split payment. If you are doing this deal for the $10 movie card please realize that after the $1.49 service charges, your net gain is only $8.51. Another thing to think about, say you see a movie matinee that costs $6 or $7...how can you get the other $3 out of the gift card...I hope the movie theater's will accept split payment when at the box office.

No problems, full $100 came through.I assume you are both talking about Verizon Wireless and not regular Verizon? I did not have success paying my Verizon Wireless bill online using the Symantec prepaid debit cards. I was able to use them in their in-store ATM-like machine.

It doesn't seem like this will work because they won't take split payment.

Are the AMEX gc's reloadable? If so, maybe we can top it off with a few bucks.

No, they aren't.

I tried using these to pay my AT&T (DSL+phone) bill online and they were denied ("payment failed"). I tried both $25 and $20 and it didn't work. They also didn't work with PayPal.

I wasn't sure what to put for cardholder name & billing address/zip though. Should it matter?

No, it doesn't matter. What is your account balance on AMEX web site?

It says it's $25.00 (posted on Nov 20).

Ok, so you can use the cards for Xbox live. I just got 1500 points. They do a $1 hold though so you can't get the last $6.25 worth until that goes away.

I actually used one of these once to try and purchase a $25 Amazon.com gift card, and my transaction was declined. That is what they told me when I called American Express. I'd probably be in on this if it wasn't for that restriction.

How would American Express know that you were buying a gift card? All they would know is the amount of the purchase. Did they tell you that they knew you were buying a gift card, or did you mention it to them first? If you mentioned it to them, then I'm pretty sure that the CSR was wrong.
To tell you the truth, I have no idea. They were the ones who mentioned "gift cards" first when I said "an online merchant denied my transaction."

One thing to note is that if you've ever bought an Amazon.com gift certificate online, you'd see that it shows up on your credit card statement differently than if you bought regular merchandise. Not sure if that has anything to do with it.

WAKE UP PEOPLE THIS IS FATWALLET! WE EXPECT BETTER FROM OUR SENIOR MEMBERS!

You've got to be creative with this- it's a multi-step process. Go to Amazon and order a random object (with free super saver shipping) for the amount that you want in your gift card (I always find the moss covered family credenza a good choice). Pay with the gift card of your choice. Once your order has been placed, immediately pick up your handy telephone and call Amazon customer service at 1-800-201-7575, tell them that you ordered an item by mistake and you'd like to cancel it. Mention that the order was placed with a gift card and you'd like the balance credited directly to your Amazon account rather than the payment method that you used (the gift card) because you're afraid you'll lose the amount you paid. The helpful Amazon CSR will understand completely and credit the balance to your Amazon account.

VOILA! Synthetic Amazon Gift Card! Let a reasonable time elapse to see the credit in your account, then go ahead and order your Amazon Gift Card with Amazon CREDIT instead of AMEX gift card balance. Should sail right through. Happy shopping!
