I just posted this deal over on SD - thought i'd let the FW community know too!

I recently switched to foxit pdf reader due to Adobe becoming such a bloated pig. Foxit loads PDFs quickly with no splash screen!

The best part about foxit is its native ability to edit PDF forms (great for filling out those rebates!) With the trial version of foxit, you can edit PDFs and print them for free, but saving the edits will create an "evaluation" watermark. Registering for the Foxit Pro Pack ($40) will let you edit/print/save for free without an evaluation watermark.

Here's the deal - Foxit currently has a deal where if you sign up and complete an offer on their page, they'll give you a free key for their Pro pack. I just signed up for the efax offer and used a virtual credit card number with $1 limit, and within 15 minutes I got my registration key. Heck, even without the pro pack, Foxit blows acrobat out of the water with its speed.

Foxit Reader

Click on the "get it for free" link and complete one of the offers! (I chose efax)

What do y'all think? Time to say goodbye to Adobe?

I love foxit, Adobe blows. I been a foxit user for a long time and it rocks

where do you get virtual credit cards?

I have been using FoxIT for a couple of years. Very very rarely I will run into a form that will not load properly, so I keep a version 7 of Adobe installed, but other than that I always use Foxit!

Love foxit. have been using it for over a year now.

I second that!

PDF-XChange Viewer is another good alternative to Adobe Reader. Not as fast as Foxit (though faster than Reader), with more free features.

Thanks! I've been using the free version of Foxit as my sole PDF reader for many years. I have recommended it to friends and installed it on many people's computers, and there has not been a single complaint. Getting the Pro Pack will be great. Thank you very, very much, OP!

How does the efax offer work? Will I have to cancel at a later time?

Virtual credit cards is a feature often provided by your credit card company. I use Citicard and they call the feature Citi Virtual Account Number (VAN).

Have installed Foxit on several PCs, and never any problems. Great software.

If you still use Adobe and don't want to switch to Foxit for whatever reason, I recommend you update it. The newer versions are not completely bloat-free, but they load ten times faster than old versions did.

I completed the efax offer, received an e-mail from Foxit telling me to reply with my information (name, address, phone number), I did that, and haven't heard back from them. It's been over an hour. Is anyone else having this problem? Thanks.

i like foxit when I am dealing with documents in english, but always have had problems when it comes to foreign language with fillable forms.

For free, it might be worth the effort and great for users who only use pdf documents with roman characters.

i think you have to download the optional language pack...

Here is a way to save Foxit PDFs without the watermark:

- Download & install Foxit Reader
- Download & install CutePDF Writer (It is a virtual printer that saves to PDF)
- Download & install Ghostscript Converter (Required by CutePDF. An open-source interpreter for the PostScript language and the PDF file format)
- Open a PDF file using Foxit Reader that you would like to type/edit.
- When done editing, click File > Print (not Save!)
- Choose CutePDF as the printer
- CutePDF will prompt you to name the edited PDF (Save to desktop for easy access to the file)
- EDIT: Exit Foxit Reader (do not save PDF when prompted!)
- Done! Your filled-in PDF has no watermark!

I've been using this method for several years now with no problems.

I've done what you said but the watermark is still there.

Did you do this step correctly? Never save using Foxit Reader.

I had an earlier version of Foxit that allowed me to edit and save without the watermark, but that feature was disabled during an update. Since then I've also switched to PDF X-change Lite, which is free. It's small and fast.

Thanks for posting. This option has always been there but I never paid attention as cancelling offers becomes more difficult sometimes

I've been doing something similar, but instead of CutePDF/Ghostcript Converter I use pdf995 which is also a free app that also works like a printer driver to write a file.

On the downside ... I have never been able to get Foxit configured to run the way that I want to to in FireFox. Using Foxit, I haven't been able to open pdfs 'in' Firefox; it just opens the Foxit app, seperately, to display the document. Not much of an inconvenience, but I seem to recall that at one time I could open/view a pdf from my browser.
