I'm sure that some of you don't think this is a good deal....but these are the Latitude business class laptops. At that price they come with a 3 year warranty. That's an additional $200 value.

Good post OP.

These are very good prices. Well built. 3yr warranty a big plus.
I may pick up a D620/D820 over any other notebooks with the same screen sizes offered by Dell.

this is a very good deal considering how much better these are than the standard inspiron. they're thinner, not as heavy yet feels sturdier, and the d-dock capability (ability to snap the laptop onto a dock and use as a desktop) is a huge plus.

not that it should make much of a difference but these are the older model machines they are trying to dump. The real savings is $300 (not 50%).

I just setup a D820 with similar specs (although all the parts are newer - newer CPU's, faster memory (800mhz), newer DX10(?) video card) for $300 more. It's also cheaper to upgrade the CPU's on the newer D820's. I didn't look at the other models to really see the cost ratio.

I still think it's a good deal, but I wanted to let folks realize that this is already a chipset behind in technology.

The Latitudes x30 line which was released last summer is basically the same as the x20 line released two years ago.
In other words, although these are obsolete systems comparing to other brands other models, they are not terribly out-of-date for being a Latitudes.

Thanks, OP. But I only see 1.5% FC on Dell SB.

This is an amazing deal. The only thing I'd add is that the screen on the D620 is not that great. I have the D620 with the 1440x900 screen, and the brightness and contrast do not compare to other laptops. There was a big thread about it at the Dell forum, but I haven't kept up with it. They may have fixed it in later revisions of the D620; I got mine when it first came out.

Your post has no value. I can basically say the same thing for all the BB laptop deals for $399. Latitudes could take a beating. I have poured coffee by accident on the keyboard before, and it is still running.

NOt hot though, probably warm..599 for latitude 620 is for very basic config, once we add (now a days regular0) 2gb ram and 160 gb and 1.83 ghz its coming around 1000$.

Though i agree these latitude are good but 630 is far better than 620.
but 1000$ + without webcam and also no t7250 or t7500 makes this deal outdated for 1000$

If anybody is looking for the above config and need to buy a good laptop and then give Green to OP.

Real cool thing is 3 yr warranty...which is well worth and makes deal very good

These are good prices assuming you dont add any upgrades and buy them at the base spec. Be careful of the upgrades, because Dell marks these up SIGNIFICANTLY!

I love the latitude series. I have been using a D600 for over 5 years now and this thing has held up to all sorts of abuse and still solid. Very tempting to buy a D620... after upgrading from 6-cell to the 9-cell battery and to the WXGA+ LCD, it comes to $687 shipped for me (648 + 39 tax).

As for resolution, this is just fine for me. I use this laptop on my couch, outside on my dek, on airplanes and in the car, so I want small/light... that's the tradeoff! For everything else there is my desktop which has a 30" Dell flat panel.

As for the other upgrades, you can do much better on your own. Esp. on hard drive and memory upgrades... you can find them much cheaper right here on FW if you search...

QUESTIONS:
1. I don't see monitor size on the D420. Anybody know what it is
2. I don't see weights for each of these. Anyone have that?

I've owned Dell Latitudes before -- Dell's SB customer service for this line is outstanding. The warranty is invaluable. Just bought one!

I am intersted in a new laptop and I think this may be a good deal for me but I just start looking now. How does this deal compare to other recent FW laptop deals? Excellent, fair / average? If this is excellent value then I may jump in for one. A 3 year warranty is nice but I would be just as happy with a 1 year or two year. Three is a little much considering how quickly these things get outdated IMHO.

alert mods

One more quick question. If I build and save the cart, does that save a system in my name should i choose to purchase it later for the price?

Or could it still sell out even though it's saved?

alert mods

the D420 has a 12.1 inch Wide Screen WXGA LCD Panel IMHO although its only a 12 screen i think it has a large footprint
