Many of my friends have started to use SIGG bottles. These are made in Switzerland out of aluminum, and undergo excessive destructive testing (check this out), and exceed FDA requirements on preventing harmful chemicals from getting through and have been thoroughly tested to ensure 0.0% leaching. They are also recyclable and come in a variety of colors/graphics/styles.

Beware the mysterious Sigg bottle liner.

Sorry - was on a conference call and got distracted. You are correct, of course.

In terms of the difference between this and a thermos...I don't know. Lighter? Looks cooler? I'm not trying to tell anyone what to do...just putting research out there, and letting people decide for themselves (with a discount!).

Not saying about the price and if this is a deal or not, but what does SIGG really offer that's different from others?

I think the main difference is in the food-grade coating on the inside of the bottle. If you open up a SIGG and compare it to a Thermos or a Klean Kanteen, you'll notice that the inside of a SIGG is brown. The point of this coating is so that the water doesn't take up a metallic taste (if you're putting in coffee or soup or something, you won't notice this taste anyway).

I work in the coatings metrology industry right now, and as far as I can tell, the coatings used are similar to that of soda cans and canned foods (yes, there are coatings in there), and even metal toothpaste tubes (like Tom's of Maine).

I love my SIGG; you can keep water in it longer without it getting a nasty plastic taste.

That' fine, and if you worry yourself sick that's what you end up with. At the same time we're now exposed to a whole bunch new stuff that the human body never had to deal with yet. Environmentally induced diseases like allergies, asthma are on a sharp rise, so there is reason enough to be cautious. You'll probably grow at least as old as your grandpa (statistically) but the big question is in what shape will you be in during the last rounds?
