According to the Mazda CX-9 Forum on Edmunds.com ( http://townhall-talk.Edmunds.com/WebX?14@@.f1131db/964 ) and my own experience there is a hidden $4,500 dealer rebate on Mazda CX-9 available. The rebate is not listed on Edmunds or anywhere else and was mostly deduced by many people having an unexpectedly great deals on '08 CX-9 (including yours truly).

Please note, the rebate is not compatible with financing deal which is .0% APR for 36 months or 1.9% APR for 60 months.

If you like the car, try emailing your local dealer for a quote either directly, or via Edmunds.com and see what you get. So far, the largest discount reported in Edmunds forum is over $10,000 off MSRP, but YMMV on that one. The more typical one is $7,500 - 8,500 off MSRP.

Good luck!

BTW, I know how to link, but linking to another forum is against FW rules, so just copy and paste the link to your browser.

Edit: Adjusted the link to land you on the 50th page of the forum where the discount actually started surfacing up.

Not in the market for a CX-9, but thumbs up on the Edmonds site. I didn't know they have dealer incentives on there!

Thanks OP!

I wonder if they have a rebate for the Mazda 5? When negotiating the price, the rebates come from the car company right? So When they give you a price at a dealer with the rebate, then they're using that to buffer themselves with the price you want?

We had a Mazda at one time...In the first 50K miles, the tranny gave out 2x, gear shifter went out once, and numerous other minor problem arose . When the transmission went out for the second time, since the mileage had just passed the warranty by 150 miles, Mazda refused to cover the tranny even though it was the exact same problem they fixed first time under warranty. I went all the way upto Mazda USA Vice President.

Instead of fixing the problem, they sent me a $100 voucher on a next purchase. Wow! Add insult to injury.

After fixing it on my own, it went out again, finally I gave up and donated the damn car.

Anyhow I vowed to never buy another Mazda and tell of my experience to everyone. Sorry, a red for you!

seriously, giving a deal that's potentially worth 10k red cause you had a lemon in the past? sheesh.

if you had that many problems, you should have extended the warranty on it.

I have a v6 6 and at 41k miles its been great (touch wood). I did test drive the cx7 and 9 when the 9 came out and liked it better. At the time discounts were tight. If I can get 8k off list I might go back!

I just bought a new 2008 CX9 with $7,000 off MSRP several days ago, my dealer also gave me a $500 gas card ($25 per month for 20 months). However, the rebate will invalidate "0% down payment, 0%APR for 36 months" deal.

This is correct - either rebate or discounted financing.

In April of 2000, I purchased a Mazda 626 LX used - it was a 1998 model lease return with 22K miles on it. I was tight on my budget and needed something for about $10K which is exactly how much I paid for it.

Suffice to say, it has been the most reliable car I have ever owned. Outside of regular maintenance, a timing belt change (or maybe 2) and scheduled services, there was only one other incident which was a right front axle fracture that cost me about $300 to fix. With that exception, I drove it trouble free for an additional 100K miles until I sold it in Apr 2006. I used to live in CT and the car withstood the elements very well, specially the winters. Solidly built car with my only complaint being a paltry 22 or 23mpg despite being a 4 cylinder. But the trouble free nature of the car more than made up for it. I was very tempted to get the CX7 but the dealer made me an offer on a '06 Pilot I couldn't refuse.

I would buy another Mazda in a heartbeat. Just my $0.02. thanks for reading

Nice find, OP, and this just is just indicative of the fact that there are a ton of great deals out there on 2008 CUV's and SUV's, including GM employee pricing on the Lambdas and Tahoe/Yukon. Some of it is typical end-of-model-year stuff, but much of it is related to the price of gas.

YMMV, but the savings on alot of these vehicles can make up for the increased fuel prices.

Maybe he is just trying to warn shoppers of the known issues with mazda. My madza also had the transmission go out, before 70k, thankfully that was covered for me (I had an extended warranty) but the cat converters also went out and thats not covered and a $2000 plus bill. Also, have had other things randomly go wrong that were not covered, $400 here, $350 there, plus the $100 deductable each time.. Just make sure you are aware of the problems before buying and what to expect. I would buy the comparable other manufacturer car if I had to do it again.

What in the world do you mean "known issues with mazda?" You got two people complain here! Mazda has numerous cars with different engines and transmissions, neither you nor Kwak even mention which Mazda model/year/engine/transmission you are talking about. If you are going to bash, at least provide a reasonable explanation of what you are bashing.

Had a friend who bought a new 2002 tribute that needed a new one after ~5k (manual)
But then again, my 94 grand caravan went through 2 also (auto). so FWIW. Those cx-9's are damn sexy, so I'd give mazda another shot.

Hindsight is always 20/20. Its prob. his first Mazda experience to buy the expensive extended warranty and then avoid Mazda as first impression is very important-from my psy101. I guess there's a reason why Toyota Camry is number 1 for 7 out of the last 8 year-The boring Camry is just too dawn reliable.
With that said, I believe lemon law apply if you have numerous problems within the first year.
