Without looking at the manual or documentation, I'd say it's fairly safe to say no. Control of an mp3 player via that dock's remote control would require a data connection between the dock and the mp3 player. Most mp3 players don't have a data port available for control like this, and for those that do, there are too many out there for this to provide universal compatibility of that nature. Therefore, for this to work with any mp3 player in general, they probably just provide an auxiliary 3.5mm audio port that any 'ol mp3 player could be plugged in to. That would provide audio only, no remote control functionality.

This being branded as an "iPod" speaker system along with a remote control, infers that the primary method of connection is via the iPod data port, which would allow for both the audio and data connection, hence the remote control would work.

Again, I haven't bothered to look at the documentation, so feel free to do so to validate my assumptions.
