Unlocking a Nokia Cell Phone
There are different generations of Nokia cell phones. The different generations are known as DCT1, DCT2, DCT3, and DCT4 (where DCT stands for Digital Core Technology). You need to find out which generation your cell phone belongs to. Most current Nokia cell phones are DCT4 but you can check the technology for your particular model at the list of Nokia products on the wiki. Then you need to obtain an unlock code for your cell phone. There are softwares available to do this. Some websites will also provide you with the unlock codes.

Also, T-Mobile will help you unlock your cell phone by providing you the unlock code after you have been on their service (either prepaid or postpaid) for 90 days. Call their customer service number or send them an email at simunlock@T-Mobile.com (thanks to karthiklax for the email address).

Start your phone Without a SIM card.
Hit *#06# to get the IMEI number. This number will be used in step 3 below.
Enter the IMEI in the box below. It should be 15 digits.
Select country and operator the phone is locked to.
Select phone model in the box below. Nokia Model: Nokia 3220 [RH-37] Box Serial 32821 [Asic 6] and Code +5#
Enter the box serial from the box above into the box below. If you know what you are doing, you can use another. Box serial: 33821 (Update: Alot of people are reporting success with using 32835.)
Click Generate code button.
You should get 7 codes, like these repeat like these NOT THESE EXACT CODES
#pw+809261027715416+1#
#pw+016403430467154+2#
Make sure you had removed the sim-card in step 1 above
Power on the phone
Enter the code as it is with all the charactes. Start with the 7th code (the one that ends in +7#), then the first then the fifth. (to get p w and + hit the asterik (*) key several times)
Double check the code before pressing the final # key
Remember- you have 5 tries, after 5 tries the phone will get locked and you will need a USB cable and software to unlock it after that.
Looks like some people are getting 3220B. These instructions do not seem to be working for them...;-(
(Update from kwadguy- All US phones 850/1800/1900 are 3220B, rest of the world phones 900/1800/1900 are 3220)
CoolxStuff says:
I used the method on quick summary (http://www.lur.nu/unlock/nokia_eng.php) but put 32835 in the Box Serial as someone mentioned. the thing is you have to insert the non-Cingular SIM while entering unlock code (pw...). Hit the center of 5 ways navigation button to open window to enter restriction code. Key in code #7(the last one) Worked for me. I tried the other method like no sim, Cingular sim, or the code other than above, but they all didn't work. Fortunately, it worked at the fifth time!!!
IMEI is also on the back of the phone or hit Hit *#06# while there is no SIM in the phone. However, you have to have a SIM in the phone while unlocking it.
Actually, it also works with Cingular sim in, no need for non-Cingular sim. I did with the second one.

One more vote for what coolstuff said. It worked perfectly fine. I didn't have much luck without the sim. I used a tmobile sim and it worked fine. Now using it with my old AT&T service
If you still have old Free2Go account (many started on famous 12/20 deal), you can move your balance now to Cingular prepaid, and keep the phone number. Key here is not activating your phone, call CS, they will transfer you to migration, you will have to give them IMEI of new phone and SIM number, and voila, you have yourself a new GSM phone with old balance. Good luck.

Turning on Car Kit and Head Set Menus (Cannot be turned off)
To enable the headset-function, you have to short-circuit the "3" and "4". After a short time there is "Headset" on the display Now, menu 3-6 is now enabled!
To enable the carkit-function you have to short-circuit the "4" and "5". After a short time, "Car" is shown on the display and the menu 3-7 is enabled!!
If you short-circuit the left and the right contact with the middle contact ("3", "6" and "9") the Nokia Software hangs! The profile "Headset" will be activated. Before you do this, just active the "auto call receive" function in the headphone profile and set the ringing volume to "mute" Now you can use your phone for checking out what people are talking about in a room. Place the phone somewhere under a table in this room and call your phone! The phone receives the call without ringing and you can listen to the words these people are talking about!
