First, Im going to tell you how to get to retention:
Hours: M-F 7-1am Saturday 8-10:30 pm Sunday 10-8:30 pm. All times Eastern.
After CSR answers say "Does my account qualify for retention if I was to close this account?"
If CSR says yes, ask to be transferred.
These are available to MOST card members:
Additional 1% Cash Back on Dividend/AT&T cards for 3 or 6 months. So the card becomes 2%/5% up to $300.
0% apr for 12 months, extended to 15 months if you spend $300 in purchases within 90 days with no fee. This will involve converting whatever card you have to an AT&T Platinum Card. Make sure whatever card you convert you redeem any rewards you have as you will lose them. To get the whole 15 months simply spend $300, pay it off, then do a BT.
Bonus 1500/3000/5000 points on your Diamond Preferred Rewards card with $300 in purchases.
When you speak to the retention rep, do not proactively ask for these offers. Simply state why you wish to close your account and let the rep offer it you. IE: "My MBNA card offers me more CashBack then this card." Etc, etc etc.
Keep in mind, I said this is available to MOST card members, if you don't qualify for retention or if you dont get the offer you want, don't complain as the retention reps cant make an offer to you if its not already available. However, you could have a lazy or incompetent rep, feel free to call back and try again. One thing to keep in mind, every time you speak to retention reps, it is noted on your account.
