This card is enrolled in the worldpoints program and earns 1 point per dollar on all purchases and 5 points per dollar at select home-product merchants. The merchants currently listed include Home Depot, Linens N Things, and thekitchenstore.com. There is no cap on points earned and additionally every 5,000 points can be redeemed for a $50 credit to your mortgage. The only downside is the terms and conditions which state:
"Five points per net retail purchase dollar at the selected merchants consists of four points per dollar bonus earnings in addition to base points earned for net retail purchases (base rate is $1 = 1 point). To be eligible for bonus points, your credit card account must be open with charging privileges and purchases must be made at the eligible merchants. Selection of these limited time offers are subject to change. The current eligibility period of the offers at the select merchants noted runs from account open date through six months. Verify terms of offers at www.mbnarewards.com.
Therefore, unlike the 5% gas station, supermarket, and Drugstore cards out there which are dependent on Visa, Mastercard, or AMEX coding this card actually determines the 5X points based on the merchants MBNA decides are eligable to participate. It could be a good card though for at least 6 months for those who make a lot of purchases from Home Depot. Since if you were to spend $10,000 on a home improvement project you would net 50,000 points which pretty much is a ticket to Europe or $500 CashBack or $500 towards your mortgage. Also the interest rate is reasonable at 7.9% Fixed.
The card offer can be found at the link provided here or you can go to bankofamerica.com then click on credit cards, then view all, then shopping cards, and it is near the bottom.
