This is another interesting new card from Bank of America. If you have a pet this could be a valuable card. You earn 2 points per dollar at participating pet stores and Veterinary clinics. On the webpage you can type the retailers name or a zipcode and locate participating double points merchants. Some of the merchants I found that participate include PETsMART and Petco although most petsmarts are listed under the banfield name. The good part about this card though is when your animal visits the vet you charge it to this card, and then request a rebate starting at $20 or more. For vetinary services the rebate is $20 for 1,000 points. So in essence all your purchases will earn 2% back towards vetinary services and if you shop at the double points stores you will earn 4% back. So this could be a lucrative deal for pet owners. I know I spend at least $300 - $400 a year on my dog at the vet between annual check ups and medicine. The link for the card is here or you can go to bankofamerica.com then click on credits card then view all then general and then on the card. The rewards information along with double points info can be found through this link as well. Also, I like the fact that you can customize the card and place a picture of your pet on the card.

I know I will definately consider this card because currently I have a financial rewards visa that I don't use because it only pays 1 points per net hundred dollars and it is rare I charge exactly in $100 increments plus I would love to put a picture of my dog on my card and the rewards seem quite generous

Before you jump on this be sure to read all the details.

Maximize your point-earning potential! Earn two PetRewards Points for every dollar you spend using your PetRewards Card at participating veterinary clinics, pet food retailers, farm and feed and pet specialty stores.

I just searched and my vet is not considered a participating clinic.

Works best with this:
NEGATIVE EQUITY ABANDONED HOUSE---COUNTY AFTER ME HELP!!!

TY OP, I'll put it in my upcoming app-o-rama. BTW, I am still waiting the pics, I assume this card has some picture options, doesn't it?

Card has too high of a PITA factor for me, but thanks for mentioning it.
It's too bad it's not a Citi card -- we'd probably be able to get free vet visits through retention or something of the sort!

Edit: To clarify, PITA isn't just PETA typed by someone who can't keep his vowels straight!

Unless you don't like Pita bread I think you mean PETA. People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. Since someone thought it was important to mention they didn't like the "PETA factor" of the card, I guess I will go on record as saying I like that aspect of it. What I don't like is that unless your vet is on their list it ends up being a 1% card that you can't even get a cash rebate on. At best its a 2% card (for me) if I submit reciepts and all that from my chosen vet. Considering the hassle factor and the fact that I have other cards that give me more than 2% on various types of expenditures, I am not as excited about this card as I was when I first saw it. (we spend mucho $$$$ on vet bills). Still, it worth considering...

Actually it is a 2% card or 4% depending on the purchases. You earn 1 point for regular purchases and 2 points at participating pet food stores, vetinary clinics, and certain other locations. The redemption schedule though is 1,000 points = $20 for vetinary care. This vetinary care does not have to be at one of their double point merchants though. According to the rules it states"

"Discount (Checks/Rebates) on Veterinary Services.
Your pet's health and happiness are important. Now you can redeem points for a Veterinary Services Rebate to conveniently help offset pet care expenses.

Rebates start at $20 for just 1,000 PetRewards Points. For your convenience, rebates can be ordered in any whole dollar amount $20 or greater. You can request a Veterinary Services Rebate Form be mailed to you or print an e-Rebate form online.

Please note:

* A valid, original veterinary visit receipt is required as proof of purchase when submitting the Veterinary Services Rebate redemption form.
* Once approved, your rebate check should arrive within three (3) weeks of the date the PetRewards Redemption Center receives your completed form and veterinary receipt.
* Veterinary rebates cannot be combined with any other offer.

To order, please call 1.800.746.8747. Beginning June 18, 2006, Veterinary Services electronic/printable Rebate forms will be available online."

OK for me I guess I can charge at Petco or PETsMART and get 2%, and then redeem for vet bills at 2 for 1 which equals 4%. Sorry for the confusion. The vet 2% thing doesnt work for me since theyre not listed. And redeeming for dog food doesnt seem that great (and its only 1 for 1). THanks for bringing this to out attention, I just may apply...

No, they meant PITA - Pain in the A-Buttocks.

Hey, this is pretty cool, they let you put your dog's mug on the card.

I can't wait to see the cashier's face when I hand her a card with this on it!

Sorry to be completely off topic, but if you "like the PETA factor" you should read this or look at this site or watch the PETA episode of Penn & Teller's BS.

Now back to your regularly scheduled programming...

I can see there are plenty of people that love to push their agendas, whatever it may be. Suggestion: Lets stick to trying to save money and lay off the politics.

Agreed. As for the card, there are other cards that give 1.5% - 2% CashBack on all purchases but with rewards that are cash or cashlike so they are a bit more flexible than this card. The 4% CashBack at petstores is something you can't get anywhere else, but is probably only worth it if you spend a lot of money at qualifying stores (many people pick up pet food, litter, etc. at the local supermarket) and at a participating clinic. But if you do meet this criteria and don't mind the PITA factor of sending in receipts to get reimbursed it may be worth it.

alert mods

wow did i ever get us off on a tangent there with "pita"! My apologies. Guess I was a pita! Anyway, the 1.5-2% rewards on all purchases, I think you are referring to AMEX blue cash or some business card, as I thought the good cards were 1% on everything besides groceries, drugs, and gas.

alert mods

It allows you to put your dog's face on the card. That alone would make it worthwhile.

alert mods

Good find, OP. Unfortunately, neither my vet nor the pet food store where I normally shop (Petco and PETsMART don't sell the specialized food that my dog eats) are not listed. What I also didn't like is that the search by zip code function will only give you results for that particular zip code. It does not show adjacent zip codes. So that's another PITA!

I do like the idea, though...

I wonder how good their photo screening process is when it comes to putting your pet on the card...I can think of a few other pictures I'd like to have on the front of my credit card!
