needdealsnow said:i did this in Jan on internet and didn't enjoy the experience. The minimum for the savings is $300. They did not let me open the account with 300 Instead they let me transfer only $100 aat the account opening time. I added $200 a few days later when I saaw the account online.
Next month there was a charge for $1.5 for balance below $300. I transferred $50 quickly but this charge brought the balance below $300 for a day or 2 and I had a $3 charge next month. I have not see the $25 gift card still.
It is impossibly difficult to talk to the CSRs and when you get through they do not help.
I have been a long time BOA customer but I have started looking at other options for my checking account as a ressult of the way they have been of (dis)service.
YMMV I guess.

I've had the same problems with BoA charging me monthly fees when they should not be doing so. As for phone CSRs, don't even get me started. When I call the number for California, there is not even an option on the menu to talk to someone. I'm forced to listen to info about my account first, then listen to a menu of options, then wait till it connects me. Pain in the behind. Furthermore, live CSRs are only available 7-10 (every other large bank has 24/7 help, incl. Citi and Wells), and when one gets ahold of a CSR, they are usually quite difficult to understand or just don't make sense.
I know people hate them as Well, but I have never had a problem with Wells Fargo charging fees incorrectly, and the phone CSRs (easily available) speak clear English and make sense (and have been friendly). If you have direct deposit AND can get free bill pay (min. balance) or are a college student, I'd definitely recommend Wells Fargo over BoA (they also have better branch hours and nicer ATMs). Of course, that's if you're in a state with one nearby. Also, Washington Mutual is worth a shot, despite not-as-great online banking.
