I've not had the pleasure of dealing with their credit department. . but I have had their bank department because I signed up for the bank bonus for $75 I think it was.
They are completely and uterly morons. She always told me that I had to wait 8 weeks for the bonus to be posted, although the application clearly said 6 weeks. I called on week 9 and she tried telling me my account had only been open for 6. I had her count the weeks with me. . and low and behold it was open 9. Now I just beat the crap out of their trial deposit system and get about 30 bucks a day.

I am dead serious on these exact comments. I wrote down her name and employee number and told her I'm writing a letter to their corporate offices about what she told me (which I'm not, and I've already shredded this statement with her info).
Mike, I'm not sure what you find so unreasonable about the supervisor's comments. Many, many people on these boards have reported receiving toy lines from HSBC with FICOs and HHI similar to what you applied with. On the HSBC Direct Rewards thread, the feeling was that having a lot of cards and available credit already was a detriment to receiving high CLs from HSBC. This is their modus operandi, and its a perfectly legitimate one, though an obstacle in the BT game. Scott1961 received a high line on his first HSBC card with only 2 cards open at the time, 800+ FICOS, and $100k in the bank with HSBC.
If it's better customer service you want to make your AOR/BT life easier, why not convince your folks to (temporarily) open an HSBC Premier account? You might have more success in bumping up your own and your folks CLs that way.
BTW, congrats on bumping your dad's $600 CL to $12.5k. I trust you now realize what a huge accomplishment that was, given HSBC's "space monkey"-nature.

Cancelled the card on the spot after having been approved. They later offered me a 2% Cash Back no fee $1K. I've been with them over a year now, have requested three CLI's and have been denied every single time. Mean while my other CL's have increased to $30K, $25K, etc. The moment they end their cash rewards program, they will receive a call from yours truly.

I don't know this for a fact but I would assume that they really don't care what your balances are... they'll give you six cards with $500 credit limit, let you max them out and then collect the interest and over-the-limit fees of $39 per card. and if you want another card to max out when you are at 99 percent utilization, they'll give it to you with a $200 credit limit and say "have fun, we heard there is a sale at Macy's this weekend". I think they are pretty dang successful the way there do things....
So just to repeat - this is a business that makes profit for their shareholders... not for those of us who want to make free money from them... (and I wouldn't mind it, I already have $40K bringing in about 150 bucks a month in interest from other cards) but I applied for a card with them in May, got a credit line of $750, called, asked about in increase, they said no, so I closed it and I will not be working with that back again... that's it... done
They don't serve my needs and I don't serve theirs... doesn't mean I need to go and start a movement to change their business practices... I mean, common people, if we are allowed to make a profit and think of ourselves why shouldn't these corporations/CEOs/managers....

If anybody ever has a problem with any HSBC account call the 716 # on the back of Your credit or debit card, the problem will be looked into right away, if you call the 800 # you will be in outsource hell.
Huh, would similar advice apply to other bank's cards with toll-call phone numbers in addition to toll-free?

Hey Mike, is there any special language you used to get a hold of an underwriter? I just tried calling the space monkeys myself, and I was woefully unsuccessful in getting transferred to a person who could help me with my $600 CL. I tried asking to speak to a loan officer, or an underwriter, or a "credit issuing ninja", but the CSR just said they don't have a department like that, and offered to take a traditional credit line increase request.
Did you use a magic passphrase or have to escalate things in any way before you got to talk to one of the underwriting chimps?
Your experiences remind me of when I tried to open an HSBC savings. Took about a month with phone calls and faxes and emails until I just gave up.

You probalby just had another idiot CSR who didn't even know what a credit underwriting department was, or what the phone number was, so they problaby just made something up. I would try calling back again and asking another monkey. (Don't even give them your name/number before you ask this question, you don't necessairly want their call logs showing details of all your calls and requests). It seems like persistance is key, apply proper pressure.
PS: I believe I phrased it "There has been a mistake in my application and I would like to speak to the credit department" (the mistake being the $600 CL, before it was upped to $12,500, but I did not tell the CSR what the mistake was and demanded a credit department/supervisor). God speed.
Yeah, I got something to report about HSBC.
They just closed my HSBC Platinum CC.
The reason: No activity on the card.
The card was only open 3 months.
Is this typical of HSBC?

they've been the only people to give me 700$ cl ever..
then again, i have 3 hsbc cards. one at 5k one at 2k and one at 700. and that was the order i applied for em also.
still, 5k is awfully low, but i see no reason to cancel them. the more credit the better, I'll just reallocate later on.

They would not let me reallocate or consolidate from HSBC platinum to my GM flex card. Then again, I only tried once and gave up so who knows what the next CSR would tell me I could or couldn't do.
I did just put away the platinum card as it only had a 1k limit and wasn't worth the 3% BT fee, but it also has 0% for 10 months for purchases; so I just bought a new king bed with it to delay paying for the bed (at a friend's employee discount from $2000 msrp for $347, aka FW style

My HSBC got approved for the same $300 and was able to increase it to $1400 (300 -> 500 -> 700 -> 900 -> 1400) now in just 8 months (not an easy task but with lot of fight). They are being very conservative in CL. It is me who needs their excellent card and not vice versa. Nobody gives cash like HSBC.
You should have not cancelled your card IMO if you don't have annual fee.
IMO the most horrible part about their credit card is
1) Couldn't make same day payments.
2) Charges are posted after 4 to 5 days.

just called to double-check on this.
they do allow consolidation/reallocation, but they are telling me gmflex is a different card issuer...
I'm 100% sure gmflex is hsbc brewed =.= .
I suppose what the csr meant was that it wasn't showing up on her screen.
