Wow! Amazing list. Great job. My company is on it and I didn't know. Thanks OP! |
Wow! That is quite a list! I work for Marriott and no idea there were so many!! I may actually print out OP's list for work. |
Okay I'm not understanding... Are the 3 letter items the codes? And is everyone able to use them??? Or is that if your a Marriott employee??? I'm looking to book a hotel and I was hoping to have some discount codes. I don't know please let me know what I am missing here. |
The codes OP posted are not for Marriott employees, except for MMP and EMP, however many of them are "qualifing rates" which means you only get the discounted rates if you qualify. For example to get the AAA rate you have to be a member of Triple A OR you must work for a certain company to get that company discount and you will need to show ID or proof you are entitled to the discount upon check-in. |
Nicely done op. To answer the unasked question, whether they will ask for proof of eligibility varies widely from property to property and from desk clerk to desk clerk. |
I am so excited I can hardly stand it. Someone just booked my hotel with a code from this list, but they picked a code that hasn't been in use since 2002 and just was never purged. It was so easy spot. If he's lucky, he really does work for this company and didn't feel like calling the travel department to make his reservation. If he's not, he won't have the proper ID and will pay the going rate. Stay tuned. I'll let you know how it works out. |
Ohhhh, go get them, you might get a raise! Do you think if you challenged me and I was platinum you would make me pay. I doubt it. I think this is why this thread has moved over to this site due to the rightous making waves. But you go ahead and enforce what you will, it is your job but no need to toot your own horn on how you are going to ruin somebodies day |
I am a Front Desk Clerk at a Full Service Marriott just outside of Washington, DC. All Front Service Employees have attended Marriott required training on ensuring guests are eligible for the rates booked. Marriott estimates they lose millions of dollars in room revenue per year due to guests booking under ineligible rates. The most notable violation has been the Government Rate. If you plan to book this rate and you are not a Federal or State Gov't employee and can not produce the proper proof (i.e. Gov't Credit Card, Gov't ID) than you will be asked to pay the rack rate when you check in (regardless of your status with Marriott Rewards). If you book any other corporate rate (such as the ACC rate mentioned earlier in the thread) and can not produce proof that you are eligible for the rate (a photo ID, a paycheck stub, or a business card with your name on it) you should plan on paying the rack rate when you arrive. We are not allowed to offer the BAR (best available rate) in cases where a rate code has been improperly used. Any Front Desk employee who does not enforce rate code eligibility rules may be fired on the spot according to our Hotel GM. I, for one, do not want to be fired, and will ask you for ID. |

The only funny thing is this I.D. thing. Yea right, I am going to show you my pay stub. I have seen all the Marriott employees post that same thing Hoteldude did. |
screw IBM... they are likely the cause of this issue on this problem of corporate codes |
I haven't been asked for id even once, but YMMV. |
I always base my hotel choices on location rather than price, but whenever I choose my hotel, I call the hotel directly and ask them to give me the travel professional rate. 9 times out of 10, they end up quoting me more money or a savings of a few dollars. I end up making my reservation online, but when I check into the hotel, I tell them I am an airline employee, and ask if they can give me a better rate than what I have. Nearly every time I end up saving about 20% from my original reservation. But they NEVER ask for ID! I always have to ask them if they want to see my airline ID, and only then will they look at it. In this case I am what I say I am, but I'm still paranoid that if I say I'm from some other company it would be the one time they ask for an ID. |
Is it illegal to print up a business card saying you are a such and such for XYZ company? |

Appears that people are trying to get some reassurance that they won't be challenged if they use a code they aren't entitled to. Massive speculation about 'if I am THIS level, they wouldn't dare challenge me', etc. The reality is that, much like many posts on FW, YMMV. One person has posted that he's never been asked for ID, others (including alleged hotel employees) have posted that they are checked(or check) regularly. |
