I don't get all the red here. Target knows people do that, so they break down the cost on the receipt for just that reason. People buy the bundle, then return a phone that normally sells for %39.99 for around $25. Then Target sells that new returned phone to the next person for $39.99.

I had a real tough time with this. Last time there was a deal like this, I bought Sat evening. Attempted a return/rebuy the next morning. Manager tells me that the phones cannot be returned once they are purchased because they are activated when you buy them. If they are returned, Target has to trash them, they cannot be resold. When I bought them, I specifically asked the guy in electronics if they could be returned and he said "yes". That was my only saving grace. They returned them, but had no others in stock, so I had to go to another store and get them.
Or you can be more ethical and probably make more money anyway by fleabaying the phone.

It's all shown on the receipt, and there's nothing illegal about it. No one else reported any problems with this last time that I remember (it was a huge thread). SafetyDance probably got one of those managers that hate to see someone get a super hot deal, so he tried to keep him from returning the phone.

It's not stealing. If Target splits the cost up on the receipt, then it's perfectly legit. If they show it as a bundle price, then it's something that can't be done. I remember a recent hot deal at CC that was to purchase a PC and monitor, then you could return the monitor (split price on receipt). Major green on that one, so I don't understand why doing the same thing here has generated red from several people. If it's legit, then it should be no problem to do.

The end user has to activate the phones. The $100 card, different story. That is activated at point of sale.
