My investment in the half-life franchise (for which I paid as much as $50/title) has sure not paid off.

Perhaps I should have gotten out years ago, but I kept thinking that the games would go back up in value. At these prices, it doesn't even make sense to liquidate my position and sell the games.

I love these games and they are a ton of fun.

I wouldn't recommend either of these games. Halflife online games are full of people with psychological problems (I knew a guy on there that even literally suicided in real life, Brian Barkyoumb aka PsychoBunny) and Left 4 Dead games, heh.. these were fun on xbox live but on PC, there are a lot of games where people will kick you out if you join. So it isn't really a pleasant gaming experience.

All of these games are solid to superb as single player games. When Half-Life came out, it was a pretty amazing game for gameplay, intelligence of the monsters, plot, and "surprises". The graphics are dated now, but still look good, and the game plays as well as it ever did. It's so well done that you'll probably enjoy (as most people do)
going back and playing it again a second or third time.
The Half-Life franchise does not have multiplayer, so that point is moot for that set of games.

Left 4 Dead has both single- and multi-player. The AI for your companions when playing in single player is adequate or better (save that they never use grenades), and the games have a lot of atmosphere as well as an active community developing mods. While I've gotten kicked sometimes from multi-player games, it doesn't happen often.

The Deal is a great one if you like first-person shooters. You'll have a lot of fun for not much money.
