What to Buy in July and Prime Day
4th of July Sales – Beyond the obvious Prime Day event this year, 4th sales start ahead of the holiday in late June and will push out past the holiday and drive the biggest focus for What to Buy in July. They bring a variety of sales and discounts from just about every retailer, but these categories offer a better time to buy from than at other times of year: Outdoor Activities Gear and Apparel, Summer Clothing for Kids and Adults, Furniture (living room and bedroom), Heat/Sun Protection Items (AC, fans, shades, umbrellas, hoses, sprinklers and UV protection), and of course, a variety of Outdoor Party Needs.
Air Conditioners, Fans, Dehumidifiers, Coolers and Thermostats – Items that “keep us cool” are featured products during 4th of July sales offering significant savings on bigger ticket purchases. Those interested need be prepared to jump on these inventory sales prices, especially the top-rated products that sell out quickly vs. getting stuck with a lesser value item that isn’t as efficient for keeping things cold. Pricing on similar products such as coolers, ice-makers, dehumidifiers and related smart home devices decrease for special sales during this month, too.
Summer Swimwear and Beachwear – July 4th sales kick-off the deeper savings opportunities on summer swimwear with discounts up to 50% off, including designer swimwear and beachwear, and savings get better than 50% off as we move further into July (Note: Online shoppers will want to utilize Ebates to earn up to 20% cash back on these types of purchases during the summer.)
Outdoor Furniture – Patio furniture sales will have tapered off since Memorial Day, but interested shoppers can expect big sales in early July that offer similar savings from spring, especially on high-end designer sets that can be found up to 75% off on Amazon and eBay. Other discounts found at the big box stores often come with free home deliver. NOTE: While, summer clearance can offer deep discounts in early fall, the lot has been picked through, and for many consumers, the seasonal weather to use it is basically over.
Outdoor Sports Gear and Yard Games – As summer heats up, so do savings opportunities on outdoor gear for camping, fishing, hiking and biking at both specialty and bigbox stores. Yard and pool games, swingsets, above ground pools and accessories see some of the lowest prices of the year at the end of July as clearance pricing hopes to make room for fall inventory space.
Prime Day Deals – Amazon’s big summer garage sale, Prime Day”3” falls (July 11 with Lightening Deals kicking off the evening on July 10). This sale will offer thousands of hidden savings on a wide variety of products for just about everyone. Stand out categories to look for deals include health and beauty items, media (books, movies, music), collectibles and most Amazon products like the Fire HD tablets, Fire TV stick, Amazon Echo and Amazon Basics. Other items worth buying include batteries, office accessories, bedding, kitchenware and other home needs. REMEMBER that most major retailers like Walmart, Target, JC Penney and Kohl’s will also have sales to compete for the millions of Prime shoppers interests, and some of these sales are better than what Amazon will offer (it really depends on the consumer need).
