(NEWSWIRE) Like the previous year, retailers brought a record number of advertised Black Friday deals (+37,000 vs. 27,209 in 2012). Black Friday shoppers saw an abundance of budget deals under $20 (more than 13,000) and there were more than 3,500 doorbusters. A late Thanksgiving Day (Nov. 28) created a long month of November sales and early Black Friday deals, with dozens of stores starting the “real” Black Friday deals online as early as Wednesday before Thanksgiving.
With another late Thanksgiving in 2014, FatWallet Black Friday PREDICTIONS for retailers projects for even heavier and earlier advertising campaigns from top stores, and in more online and mobile channels than ever before.
The popular deal hunting site expects continued saturation of “early” sales marketing with more than a dozen top retailers to offer holiday shoppers a Black Friday “week”, starting public sales and deals online as early as the weekend before Thanksgiving Day. Retailers will bring more than 40,000 Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals to shoppers in 2014, with a heavy focus on including in-store gift cards to reduce MSRP pricing., especially on Black Friday tablets deals and other mobile tech. In 2013, a few bigbox stores offered card members early access to their Black Friday doorbusters the weekend before Black Friday, and only site members got initial access to view the Walmart Black Friday ad. Expect dozens of stores to try these “VIP” and new signup tactics with their shoppers this year. Also expect continued early store hours on Thanksgiving this year, with some stores starting in-store Black Friday bargains ahead of the holiday to attract shoppers who may be traveling.
