13″ iPad Pro makes its debut ahead of holiday sales.
Next Wednesday, we’ll learn all about the new iPhone 6S and 6S+ at Apple’s September 9 media event, but the “bigger” news may be the announcement of the iPad Pro (see 9to5mac post.) The long-rumored 12.9-inch Apple tablet will arrive just in time for Black Friday price wars in November, including super low discounts on current iPad Air models and other tablet deals. Rumors suggest pre-orders for the iPad Pro will launch in late October. This could possibly move the announcement to a separate October media event since we expect news of a new Apple TV next week (see below for details.) Initial inventory of the iPad Pro may be limited, so getting the first huge iPads may be a challenge.
What to Expect from the iPad Pro
The iPad Pro is a much larger device designed for the power user. It is expected to include the new Force Touch feature that the iPhone 6S will have, offering some awesome functionality and fast shortcuts. Stereo speakers will enhance media streaming, and expect Siri and the Notification Center to include considerable feature upgrades as well.
BONUS for TV streamers: New Apple TV
A new Apple TV (4th generation) is also expected to be announced on September 9. While it still won’t support 4K streaming or Airplay, it will feature a faster processor (A8 chip vs. current A5), a 16GB of cache storage (current models have 8GB) and support for SIRI/universal search. The updated remote will be black metallic and include touch support and motion control. The initial release price should be $149, with modest discounting come Black Friday. That means older Apple TV models should drop below $50 (currently as low as $60), certain to be hot deals and stocking stuffers for those who don’t have this technology yet.
