We partnered with our friends at Dell to test out and give away their Inspiron 11 3000 2-in-1 laptop! This ultra-portable device surprised us when we unboxed it. It’s only 11″ and less than an inch thick, but as we found when we tested it out, what it lacks in size it makes up for in convenience. It comes in four different colors, all bright and beautiful, and all with optional matching accessories. Keep on reading for our thoughts and for your chance to win your own!
- 11.6″ HD LED-Backlit Touch Display (1366 x 768)
- Intel Pentium Processor N3710 (2M Cache, up to 2.56GHz)
- 4GB DDR3L 1600MHz RAM (4GB x 1)
- 500GB 5400rpm HDD
- Windows 10 64-bit OS
- 1-Year Limited Warranty
Right off the bat, one of the first things that impressed us about this device was how easy it is to use. Louryn has a 15″ 2-in-1 PC, and while she loves the touchscreen, she finds herself avoiding tablet mode most of the time because of how bulky the device is. Dell’s Inspiron 3000 is different — when you flip it into touchscreen mode, it feels natural because it’s about the size of a typical tablet. We also loved the price tag. At just $200 for the lowest base model, 2GB of memory is fine if you’re only using your laptop to surf the web, watch Netflix and store photos. Using a portable hard drive would easily resolve any storage issues. However, upgrades are also affordable — the model we’re testing rings up at $362.59 shipped as of press time. Chelsey’s a big fan of Dell’s numerous eGift card deals, which could easily be rolled into this 2-in-1 to make it an even better deal. You can find some of these deals at the bottom of this post!
Don’t judge her, but Louryn loves playing mobile games like “Candy Crush,” “Dots” and “Solitaire.” She said this computer would be super-fun for anyone who has the same guilty pleasure. In addition, one touch of a button on the toolbar shows you all of your open windows — a valuable feature when you’re working with only 11″ of display.
The touchpad is nice and responsive, with dedicated left and right buttons. Since this computer has such a small form factor, if you have larger hands, you may prefer to use a wireless mouse. The Dell Inspiron 3000 is running on a 64-bit version of Windows 10, which means you also have access to the Microsoft Web Store and Cortana.
The keyboard features chiclet-style keys that have a nice satisfying response both when you depress and release them. Louryn types around 93 WPM, and out of curiosity she took a few typing tests on the Dell Inspiron 3000. To her surprise, the small size didn’t hinder her average — she actually jumped up to 97 WPM. Among the slew of ports along the sides of the computer, you’ll find a sleek power button and an even sleeker volume rocker button (a feature we found ourselves using frequently). This computer also has an HDMI port, so if you want to use another display you can do it very easily. You won’t get stunning selfies with it, but the webcam would suffice for anyone needing to call into a meeting or class, or Skype with a family member.
In our tests we noticed that the computer charges super quickly, and it doesn’t get too warm when resting on your lap. The speakers are pretty standard for a laptop, meaning they aren’t great for blasting your favorite music — they can get a bit blown out when turned up too loud or when there’s a lot of bass involved. However, they’d be just fine if you’re listening to podcasts or streaming your latest Netflix binge-watch session. The battery lasts around 5 or 6 hours.
You can also pair this 2-in-1 with some accessories for the best experience. The outside of the laptop is vibrant, but it also attracts fingerprints like crazy. A case is an easy solution if fingerprints bug you. Under our bright office lights the screen was a little difficult to see in tablet mode, but a screen protector that cuts down glare is very affordable if this is an issue in your home. All in all, we would highly recommend this computer to kids and high school students for doing homework and playing games, as well as college students that need to write papers and surf the web. It would also be a great tool for independent business consultants that primarily use Facebook to sell their products or for those that may not want to bring their $1800 computer traveling with them. It’s a great little laptop that fits tons of convenience into a small and stylish package.
