Welcome to the FatWallet Black Friday Forum!
Welcome to the FatWallet Black Friday Forum! At FatWallet, Black Friday is a huge event. Our members consolidate as many deals as they can for Black Friday sales. If you plan on going to a store to shop on Black Friday, here you can see advance information that will help you plan your trip. Or if you intend to shop online, you can pick what you want, click through to the deal, and make your purchase from your computer while avoiding the general in-store insanity.
Um, yeah, but what is Black Friday?
Okay, if you are on FatWallet and you have this question, I would like to start by inviting you to step away from the rock you've been living under all these years. Black Friday is the day after Thanksgiving. Since Thanksgiving vacations extended the weekend (which gave potential customers more time to shop), merchants turned that day into a major sale day. Its hallmarks include stores opening their doors at midnight, ridiculously long lines (yes, people will stand in line for hours), a slew of sale flyers with a variety of deals, and doorbusters (a sale item specifically geared toward getting people into the store), among others. At FatWallet, the approach of Black Friday is the most exciting time of the year for us. After all, we're a community of shoppers looking for the best deals we can find. One of the ways we are celebrating is through our annual Black Friday FatWallet T-Shirt contest. We may even have some fun and games on our FaceBook page.
Wait, what's the difference between the Hot Deals forum and the Black Friday forum?
Our Black Friday ("BF") forum is very similar our Hot Deals ("HD") forum, except that it only has deals relevant to Black Friday sales. Thanks to our new "mirroring" system, whenever a thread is created in Hot Deals and has the "Black Friday" category added (our staff does that as deals come in, so you don't need to worry about it), it will automatically also appear in the Black Friday Forum. Because a single mirrored thread appears in two places, members can enter the thread from either forum to reply or vote. Furthermore, when you post in a Black Friday thread (which also appears in Hot Deals), it will "bump" in both places. This keeps the deals with the newest info on the top of the list (for those who have their filters set to "most recent messages").
How does FatWallet intend to give me even more of an edge hunting deals than last year?
We have a new tool this year that will help you find what you're looking for fast. All you need to do is open it up and start sorting. You can sort by store, brand name, or even specific product to find your item and related items. You can even search by specific item. Some things cost more than you're willing to spend? You can set your price range and not even bother with them. Don't want to deal with mail-in rebates? You can filter them out. This tool will grab the information out of out Black Friday Forum for you before you can say...oh, look, it's already done.
In order to use the tool, just select either "store" or "category." You will move to the next filter. As you move through the trees by making selections and hitting "next," you are focusing in on what you want to look at. If you want to see everything at a particular store, it's right there for you. If you are specifically looking for an LED HDTV at any store, it's just as easy. Play around with the tool and see what happens. It will make your Black Friday shopping easier, and maybe even more fun.
What should I post in the Black Friday Forum?
Feel free to post any information you have regarding Black Friday sales. This forum is meant to be a hub for Black Friday shopping information. If you are aware of a killer deal, drop it in. If you have tips for shopping that makes the day more efficient, we would love to hear them. After Black Friday is over, it would even be fun to have a thread for everyone to post their best finds. If you are posting a deal, you can either post it in Hot Deals or the Black Friday Forum, since it will be mirrored in the other forum.
Oh, and a quick couple of tips: When getting ready to post, please search to see if your information is already there. A cluttered forum becomes hard to use. Also, feel free to use FatWallet acronyms. They save space and make reading threads easier.

What is this "Black Friday T-Shirt Contest" of which you speak?
Why thank you for asking. For the last couple of years, we have invited our community to design what they think our Black Friday t-shirt should look like. Every year, we have many designs that just make us go, "Wow!" Keep your eyes open for our upcoming official announcement.
