Hello. I haven't been here for a few days, but you may not have even noticed, now that KS95 is no longer saying Listen to Win codewords, I don't have much to add anymore. We noticed a week or so ago our oldest pug Indy was having trouble breathing, or breathing a little heavier. But, everything else was fine. My wife suggested an appt, so I made one last Wed for Monday the 5th. She called me Thursday morning and said I should make it sooner, as he was worse. I got in Thursday evening, and found out that he has three big cancerous blobs in his lungs, and he had water around his already enlarged heart. The vet, who is also my brother, said there is nothing they could do, but give him some medicine that will make the kidneys work harder to get rid of the water. He said he probably had a few days to live. We had a big day scheduled on Saturday, involving an American Diabetes Association GALA, that my team Paul's Pedalers, was receiving an award for raising over $135,000 in 12 years for the Twin Cities Tour de Cure charity bike ride. The most for a family/friends team. We made an appt for Monday, May 5 at noon. It was nice to have those final days, and all I did was spend time with him. He was unable to walk very far, without getting winded, so we had him in his bed, on top of an ottoman, and we would push him around between where I was or where my wife was working. We have had to hand feed him since Thursday morning. He would stand periodically, and we would have to guess if he was thirsty, or had to go outside. We usually guessed correctly. Only once we guessed incorrectly, and he was standing in the kitchen, fell down, and had an accident. The actual process was very quick, and he didn't have time to be confused or cough. He is now in a better, pain free place, running around with his 'brother' Seagram and many other pets he knew. Our 2 year old pug Puka is a little confused, but seems to be doing ok. This weekend was tough for me, but I am much better now.
And, we are going on vacation so I will be away from here until the 19th.
Grover, What a hard post to read, especially for someone who has two dogs and loves them like kids. I am so sorry for your loss. I'm sure it will take some time to get used to not having Indy there. You will look for him or put your hand down to pet him and he's not there. I worry too about my oldest, Rocky, who is getting old. I don't know what Shorty will do when he is not there. Glad to hear that Seagram is doing ok. It will take all of you some time to get used to Indy not being around. It is amazing to hear how much money your family/friends have raised over the years. It's fabulous! Nice to get the recognition, but I know you don't do it for that. Once again, so sorry for your loss. I know what a big part of your life they can be.
Grover, I am so sorry for your loss. You will always have the fun memories of him. The change of environment will be great for you - you will be away and looking at new things. Enjoy - that is what life is for and that is what I am sure he would want for you.
That's tough G rover, you did everything right for Indy. Cherish your memories, I lost a cat same time last year, her name also was Indy. Perhaps the only two animals in the world named Indy. Your Indy wants you and yours to be happy, that's a good dogs job, unconditional love!
