Has nothing to do with the economy and everything to do with this being a poorly run company that did not adapt to the changing market.

Both... bad economy make it worse.  So badly run + weak company will die out 1st.

I do a lot of shopping at Kmart. Price is really competitive and often on sale plus reward points to sweet the deals. I average spending for Kmart is about $100 each month. Recently, I got 3-sets roller skaters for $50. Similar quality at Target cost about $40-45 a pair. Once you join their shopyourway rewards, you get more discount on top of on sale. I guess most people just don't have the time and skill to browse stores and do the math.

Loosing one in my town, which is not on your list. I see Kmart still has 870 stores which is amazing to me. After the current store closes here there will be only three Kmarts in my entire state!

You don't seem to realize that Kmart/Sears is run by Crazy Eddie Lampert, who believes a corporation should be run like an Ayn Randian utopia full of creative destruction, emphasis on the destruction.  He would have to improve to become totally incompetent.

The Chicago location is 5100 S Kedzie in Gage Park if anyone cares.

Store closings --> Job loss, Less Competition --> Higher prices in the long term. Less income, higher inflation.

How is my local store not on that list? Last time I went in there it was the like set of a zombie apocalypse movie.

Remember Bradlees?

There are never more than about five employees in my Kmart whenever I go in there, and they STILL seem to outnumber the customers.  I don't think these closings are going to adversely affect employment to any great extent in these locations.

Remember Service Merchandise and Robert Hall. Good Riddance!

My town in listed but there are two here. Wonder which one it is?

The Kmart in my hometown, Springdale, Arkansas, is closing. I am going to miss being able to shop there.

Wow. He's even crazier than I thought. "His dream, former colleagues say, is to turn Shop Your Way into a hybrid of Amazon and Facebook. The website now features profile pages for celebrities such as Nicki Minaj and Adam Levine, and Lampert, under his favored pseudonym, Eli Wexler"

This would explain the crazy home page for SYWR. We need to monetize more somehow. Anyone shorting?

Find the store number then look on the list.
